Two relatively oddball coupe type things from utter opposite ends of the spectrum meeting in the middle. What are the chances.
The rex, that would be mine. The '12 belonging to ...what I would best describe as a ZZ top lookalike that kind of seemed like his better years had slipped by doing backup vocals for a country band.
At any rate. It is now on the road and registered. I have the good fortune of working with a master Mazda tech who was the only one in his seven years of existence in parallel to the RX-8 to work on them in our shop. He can swap synchro's blindfolded, and can hear apex seals and carbon deposits from across the lot. He, consequently, absolutely despises working on them. But as a good friend, he came out, took a look at it, checked all the usual stuff that breaks, and proclaimed "I fucking left Mazda swearing I would never EVER find myself under the hood of one of these things again, and yet here I am." Followed up by "You got a hell of a good deal on this, Clay. Take it easy on the second gear synchromesh and don't think you won't be working on it as much as driving it. But from where I sit, It's the cleanest one I have seen in a while".
Cool. The pope of RX-8 repair just blessed my car.

I want an XJS V12 so badly... but then I'd need thousands just to make it work right.

I might be back in the rotary club and join the rx8 club. Still gotta decide between a 2009 Rx8 R3 and a 2008 135i coupe with M sport.
