This is completely utterly off topic.

I have never been to Florida or on a cruise unless you count the ferry from San Francisco to Alcatraz?

What do I need to know? What are some top tips for doing this?

An outlaw is yours.

Dude, I'm doing the same thing next week! I'm sailing from Fort Lauderdale to Key West, on to Nassau, and back. I'm psyched.

It's been 8 years since my last cruise. But from what I can remember, there are a few things you can do to prep:

1. Bring your valid passport and/or birth certificate (not a copy...needs to be original). Even if it's valid, some cruise lines will make a stink if your passport is due to expire in less than 6 months, so if your passport is expiring this year, call the cruise line to check on their policy.

2. Dramamine. If you've never cruised before, you may be in for some seasickness. So bring meds, just in case.

3. Sunscreen. Try to buy it before you board. The prices of everything on the ship are jacked up.

4. Keep your sea pass with you at all times. They issue this to you when you board, and you need it to get on and off the ship. If you lose it, you're gonna have a bad time.

5. Play the slots. They tend to hit more on cruise ships than in casinos. Don't ask me why. But I won 50 bucks at the nickel slots, and my friend won 300.

6. Kick back, relax, and have an awesome time!

Make a copy of your passport and keep one on you and one on the ship

Drinks can be spendy on ships and they tend to be nasty about you bringing booze on board with you. You can bring water though, so maybe some vodka in some water bottles.

On the ships I have been on there was a secret door where you could get ice cream. Usually near the pool bar.

Tums, headache meds and Imodium. Just in case.

Sunblock. Lots of it.

Look online for tipping guidance. I think we ended up tipping like $100 or more to cover the service staff.

If someone does right by you on the crew let the management know.

Research what shore excursions you want to do before hand if you can. They are expensive, but fun. Nothing wrong with just getting off the ship and hitting the beach.

We've bought a number of pieces of art on cruises and the art auctions are just fun anyway. Most of the stuff we have bought was animation art.

Explore the ship. They are amazing machines. Play some shuffleboard before dinner. Watch the ship as it leaves port. The can turn 360 degrees in their own length.

Your cell phone goes in the safe and should stay there. Especially if it is a work phone.

Go snorkeling or diving. It is awesome.

Bring a light water/wind proof jacket.

Food. Eat it. All of it. Go to the midnight chocolate buffet and eat more.

Find someplace forward on the ship where you can get wind in your hair.

Not sure of the ship. Caribbean cruises are usually pretty mellow. We did our honeymoon cruise on the Norwegian Star in Hawaii 12 years ago, for reasons that are TLDR we had to go to Kiribati for a day. To do that the ship sailed due south at full speed for 24 hours. There was a typhoon a few hundred miles to the west so we had 25ft seas, a 25 kt headwind and we were doing 25 kts into it. It was awesome. We woke up the first night to the sound of the waves pounding against the forward superstructure. Little old ladies were being blown around like rag dolls and people were eating Dramamine like Tic Tacs. We thought it was good fun.
