My engine bay is terribly dirty. Also, that oil cap has been sitting there for a week since putting on the air/oil separator. I have been thinking of using the simple green method? Any one have some good simple engine bay washing tips?

that foaming degreaser stuff (whatever brand at auto store) seems to be pretty valid. Foam up, rub with brush and blue rags wherever, then rinse.
simple green seems to be good in between, but not so great at getting the serious gunk to lift

Engine degreaser and pressure washer works wonders, just be careful what it comes into contact with. Left some chalky white stuff on some plastic and didn't seem to want to buff out. Also if you do use water, might be a good idea to cover the electrical bits.

Oh I have a lot of shit. Whatever this is to the right of the turbo on the block is very built up.

I use some engine degreaser and a garden hose. Obviously be careful of what you're spraying, but degreaser, a rag, and water do the job just fine.

A bit of degreaser and a good old spray carwash will work. You may have to do it more than once. Watch your electrics/electronics. The nice thing about the corner 25 cent car wash is they generally treat all leftovers as a hazmat type of substance. So it gets special treatment.

I do the simple green method, it works fine.
Also I've started using a diluted simple green mix to clean other things like carpets and plastics inside the car...works great and smells good.

I bought a can to clean the engine bay on my Rover but haven't tried it yet. Afraid it's going to make all the 40 yr old hoses disintegrate! Let us know how it works for you.
