1st Gen Ford Ranger (1983-1992) + Ecoboost engine
I want it. I can't do it. I lack time/money/skills and I have to start/finish the Sonett first anyway (which is gonna take a while). Still, I want to share
Preferably an extended cab version, but the single cabs work too
Option 1

- For some reason, I just don't trust this one o.O
Now, where to find the engine? Copart cars of course!

The ST is probably the best shot of getting one cheap, the engine is about the only thing left worth saving!
Thoughts?

Better idea:
Step 1: Buy a V8 Dodge Dakota
That's all the steps.

If I had any skill what-so-ever I would be all over this idea.
In fact, I called out Ford on building one to resurrect the Ranger themselves over the summer.
I do like that you've chosen only the boxy Rangers as well. I've always liked those.

Those ecoboost engines are awesome. I've been daydreaming about taking one and slapping it in a Focus ST and retrofitting AWD. That would be a solid little car.
I highly doubt I'd make it fit in that little engine bay though. I just wish there was an option for such a creation from the factory...

I have a 2002 ranger, my life needs more boxy trucks

Boooo
I'm from a ford family, chances of me owning a dodge truck are roughly nil unless its older than me (ie pre-90's)

These are all second gen Rangers except for the runner ups and the Ecoboost 6 won't fit all that well. 302s fit with only a little bit of massaging, though.

You would be dealing with a transaxle setup, if that doesn't bother you.

Except the 4.7 in the Dakota is a limp wristed POS. Unless you ment the old 318 powered Dakotas. that's a bit better.

I've seen a few 5.o mustang swapped Rangers, one 85 reg cab i found last year was especially tempting but I needed to find a vehicle I could get financed cuz I didn't want to empty my savings account. lol
This isn't the same truck, but you get the idea.

5.9 R/T preferably..

I'd always defined 93 as the start of the second generation :/
The change in 89 was pretty much just the grill and the headlights, wasn't it?

Front clip, engines, axles, interiors, and IIRC transmissions.

So close, and yet so far.
