I've never been a fan of the GT-R, mostly because of its clientele base, but goddamn this kids reaction just makes me want one so much more.

There are empty back seats and therefore this video gets one thumb up and the other down from me. Adorable, yes, but... come on, dude.

The fact that this car supposedly has a thousand ponies, does that help too?
Lot's of bitching going on over it, how it's unsafe etc etc. I think it's pretty awesome myself and am not inclined to jump to conclusions - there's no evidence that any of this was reckless as far as I can see?

Well, you can turn the airbag off and she does appear to be in a booster, so?

I mean, sure, it was unsafe. But the kid was fine with it. It's not like the dad tied her down and said 'i'm going to make you shit your pants, because daddy's car is ludicrously fast'. This is just how the internet reacts, unfortunately. I'm just happy to scare the shit out of my friends when showing them my moms E63 AMG S model wagon, my life would be much better doing that in a 1000hp GT-R.

Anytime there is an awesome parent out there with a fast car that is joy ridding around with their kid the internets will be all crazy about it. Lets come to realizations about the airbags in modern cars, under 65 pounds of weight in the seat the bag won't deploy, above 65 pounds it will. I'm sure the GTR has the 2 stage bags as well which means that if it does deploy it won't be the full brunt the bag can deliver. The kid was belted in along with the belt not crossing her throat. Plus some 2nd gear pulls really isn't terribly unsafe.
That little girl is just damn cute with her english accent pleading with her dad to press the loud pedal. I guess the world that isn't into cars just won't understand. Sometimes people with high-dollar and high horsepower cars can be responsible. . .

So, if it didn't have back seats, or did but they weren't empty, hand-wringing would be averted?

Someone had to bring some logic into it. I mean really there is nothing wrong with a kid in the front seats of modern cars provided the safetybelt is properly used.
When my dog rides with me in my Miata I have the airbag turned off because the last thing I want is for her to be killed by the bag being deployed. Just to be clear, I also have a harness which is locked into the seat belt via a climbing carabiner rated to 3000 lbs. My dog loves going for drives with the top down, and she is the closest I have to a kid. I've taken my sisters godson out for a ride and he's 5, airbag off and he was in a booster seat with the seatbelt fully locked into place keeping him strapped to the seat back. As long as you are smart about giving kids rides the only danger comes from other motorist that are not paying attention or basically everyone complaining how unsafe this was and how bad of a dad this guy is.

I can see what's going to happen 11-12 years down the road.
Dad: Where you off to?
Daughter: I'm going out with Richard, daddy.
Dad: Oh yeah, Dick. The tosser with that run down Golf.
Daughter: Don't be so cheeky, daddy. Richard's a nice bloke when you get to know him. And his Golf is a GTI.
Dad: Aww, get off it. I used to smoke those boy racers in me GT-R back in th' day. Remember that, sweety?
Daughter: Of course I do, daddy.
Dad: Will you do me a favour, love? Will you tell Dick to pony up and get a real man's car?
Daughter: I'll tell him straight away, daddy. Well, Richard's here. I'm off.
Dad: Be back by 11 sharp, and ring me every hour on the hour.
Daughter: Will do, daddy. Bye.
Dad: Bye, love.
closes door
Dad: I swear she's going to be the death of me, if I'm not the death of Dick, first. I never should have taken her out on that ride in my GT-R. She's been in love with fast cars and even faster boys every since.

When my daughters were very young (around 7 and 5), they had a favorite on-ramp that we drove often. They knew exactly where it was, and exactly how fast daddy was going to take it. Right before the entrance, they would sing "Here we GO!" and giggle maniacally after we were through it.

Exactly. I had the same thought...

At three months, mine gets upset at stop lights then giggles and loves it when we take off. When the engine rumbles and the exhaust burbles, she loves it. When she's feeling cranky or just won't sleep, it's the Mustang that puts her out...
... but not in any other car.
Our daughters, they have our because racecar DNA.

I used to do the same thing with my son and daughter in the back seat of my mustang GT, road and traffic conditions permitting of course. They would beg me to go fast, and I would oblige under the condition that they not tell their mother. I never got in trouble for it, so it seems they kept their end of the deal. It made me a bit proud as a parent, but just today I had to drive my now 9 year old daughter to the local ice rink. It was a beautiful day here in South Florida, and I offered to drive her in my Boxster S with the top down. She instead chose the Odysssey minivan. I don't know where I've gone wrong in raising her.

You gave her the choice.
I'm also parenting in a Mustang, btw.

My wife demanded that I get a family vehicle as my daily driver so I of course got a Mustang since it has a back seat and can therefore transport kids. The Mustang is a perfectly fine family vehicle 95% of the time. Good trunk space, reasonable back seat room for kids. Back seat access is an issue, but it's manageable.
