My Step-Dad's wealthy friend ( !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ) has just picked up a barn find 1981 Lancia Beta Zagato. He got it for $2k and is hoping to flip it and sell for $5k. I may have to see about getting a loan from my parents...

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Surprisingly the body is completely free of the infamous rust worm, probably because of the barn's humidor-like conditions. It just needs some attention under the hood and it'll be good to go.

Sorry but no SR20 because I was in a hurry. Imagine this but silver:

silver was a popular color, though not as striking as this red. Do you work on your own cars? If not go find the closest brick and beat yourself in the head multiple times with it until you realize that is what bringing it to the mechanic is going to be like :)

Wait... He bought that on eBay, didn't he?

That thing was originally listed for $10k.

Read the whole post. I didn't get a picture of it so I just threw up one from GIS.

If he's a good friend of your stepdad I'm sure he'd let you buy it for cheaper than 5k

He definitely would but I'm only 20 and thus have about ~$2k to my name, so even a discounted price would still be out of my range.

Old barn= humidor. The exposed (and seasoned) lumber absorbs moisture and keeps the air dry.

not to be TOO much of a dick, but do you REALLY expect a older lancia for 2k to be rust free?

Oh cool :) the coupes and HPEs are my favourites, but I wouldn't say no to a nice Zagato.

Kinja'd!!!

The rust rumours stem mostly from the UK importer at the time, who did a couple of incredibly stupid things. Firstly, they saw two big open holes in the bottom of the bulkhead and thought 'those shouldn't be there' so fitted rubber bungs to block them. Little did they know but those were drain-holes for the double-skinned bulkhead, so they retained water and rusted from the inside out.

The second thing they did was to keep them in a field for a couple of months before shipping them onto each dealership.

Really not clever.

They do rust, but not notably more than a number of other cars from that era.

Personally, I want to fit one with the drivetrain from a Delta Integrale and make a Beta Integrale :)
