That's the 2nd most confusing gear selector I'll see today

Hands up who here just started moving their hand, as if shifting through the gears?

Must be from an old Citroen.

I do remember seeing an article a few years back about how 6 speeds were about the limir for manuals, as 7 speed gearboxes would necessitate a hopelessly complex shift pattern.
Obviously, if that was a problem, it has been solved (See: C7, 911), but maybe this is what it was talking about!

What car is this from?

It reminded me of my friends 5 series shifter. So I'm guessing thats right.

It's the m6 series convertible. I think. like 90% sure.

Forgive me if this is obvious, but why not just add another leg to the high gear side? Like this:

It's actually from some RUF.

It makes so much more sense if you look at it this way:
So, yeah, we're talking about a manipulated image. The original was probably a tracktor gearknob, or one from a truck.

Honestly I would love to try driving a car like this.

I want to put this in my car. To confuse people.

Plenty of options for that :D
Needs some work to fit on the shifter though.

Anti-theft: God mode. Remove stock shift knob, replace with this.

So it appears to be a shifter from an old RUF

So my reverse GIS came up empty when it came to figuring this out. Any idea what this is out of? Or what the colors are for? I saw somewhere that they may indicate the position of a splitter or selector or something, and the spots with multiple gears are in the same location, you just change the splitter. But that falls apart when looking at the 3,1,7 position as 3 and 1 are both yellow.
Or is this just something someone made purely to screw with people?

Shifting from 3rd to 4th fuuuuuuuuuuu

That's what the interwebs say....
Or am I missing one of those "meems" the kids are all talking about?

It's real, off an old RUF I haven't been able to find. You push down on the knob to reach the green gears, and pull up on the knob for the red ones, yellow are all reachable normally. It's still just as ridiculous to imagine using, much less as intuitively as a normal 'box.
