Lurked here for a while and I play GTA 5 with the Oppo gang almost daily so I figure it was time to join. I'll skip the silly stuff and get to what's important - Car History.
My first car was an 04 Scion xB which I owned for a year.
Traded that for a 2007 Chevy Colorado Z71 2X4 which I also had for a year.
Traded in for a 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer GTS which I got rid of after 6 months due to extremely high insurance rates.
Traded that in for a 2005 Dodge Dakota Laramie 4x4 v6 which I got rid of after 6 months due to terrible gas mileage and general terribleness.
Traded that in for a 2000 Volvo v40 which I hooned for 4 months before it became too unreliable.
Sold it to buy a 2003 Volvo XC70 AWD which I've had for 4 months so far and love.
Well that's it, so hello all! Glad to finally be on Oppo!

Try the acid, it's warm this time of year.

Thank you, as someone who is fairly new to Volvos, I may end up with a question or two haha. BTW where are you located? I'm hosting a little Volvo Owners get together in a couple of weeks here in New Jersey.

I'll stick to my glogg. Keeps the soul warm.

Parts diagrams and break away images also buddy. Just let me know

Welcome! It's amazing how the car is somewhat timeless being a 2003. AWD must mean you're somewhere in the north

Got the V8 from an XC90? Or a spart T5 lying around? Haha.
![]() 02/12/2014 at 23:34 |

Yup, Jersey. Got the AWD because I was tired of getting stuck in the snow.
![]() 02/12/2014 at 23:35 |

Real jealous of your warmth though.
![]() 02/12/2014 at 23:36 |

Thanks! I could use one with tonights approaching storm.
![]() 02/12/2014 at 23:39 |

Yeah, I'm getting ready for the storm too. This isn't going to be fun.

No one seems to know what's gonna happen. Went from 10 inches to 4-6 inches, then a snowy mix, back to 2-3 inches. Damned weathermen.

Ha I'm in Jersey as well. I got a Subi for the occasional snow (sold the 5.0 coyote which was a huge bummer) Although this year we are getting smoked. Stay warm friend!

no but i'll keep an eye out lol :]

Man, some days I REALLY wish I got a subi instead of the Volvo. Was on CL just today looking for a mid to late 90s Legacy/Outback wagon. I'm thinking about owning one on the side to do a full STI driveline conversion into.

Haha, I have a ton of ideas of what I could do to this thing, trying to figure out the right way to go. It nearly became an uncompetitive RallyX car but decided to blow the power steering pump while snow drifting. My idea now is 350AWHP.

Nice. Mine is weak. I only have the base trim. No turbos, only because I commute a 120 miles a day so premium would real bite into the cost.
I'd love a bugeye sti or a wrangler as a side car to run around town in. (Wrangler for beach traversing)

It's times like these I really miss living in Florida. Weatherman was always like, "Today, partly cloudy. High 80. Tomorrow, partly cloudy. High 80."
I don't even know why people want to live up north. This is madness.

Yea my parents were pretty against me getting a turbo'd car. Good thing the XC70 doesn't come in an NA model. 3700lbs doesn't go fast in a car that makes 160bhp. Still a bit sluggish with 208bhp.
I was in the market for a Wrangler when I ended up in a Colorado. The wrangler broke down on a test drive -__-

This weather is making me want to move to the south.

You got a great car. Blessing in disguise on the wrangler. Thankfully it broke before you bought.
I probably won't get one but I'm oh so tempted. Especially after watching the off-roading video of the wrangler just not caring about snowy roads

your brain... I like it :]

My wallet hates it.

That's the same thing that made me want one. Instead I bought a 2x4 Colorado that had beefy tires and a tall suspension anddddd still got stuck in 2 inches of snow. Sold it right after for a FWD again.

You and me both, man.

3-4 months of not wrenching on the car is rough haha.

Why did/didnt you like the cars you had?
could you tell me a bit more about that :)

The xB - It was OK but I was 17. Put some rims on, lowered it, fart cannon exhaust, intake, aftermarket strut etc etc, loved it but some drunk driver side swiped it while it was parked. Took out the door, sideskirt and fender. Whole car needed a paintjob anyway but I couldn't afford to fix it so I took the insurance check and traded it in with a little help from the parents.
The Colorado - Great truck. Z71 package, beefy tires, taller suspension, black with chrome accents, looked great and drove great. 242bhp RWD and it light up the rear tires despite being automatic. I would still have it BUT it was only 2x4. Got stuck in everything. Useless offroad/in rain/in snow. So I went to trade it in for an 08 Lancer GTS (was having rally dream at the time)
The Lancer - A woeful car. Great looking and mine was an 08 with 50k miles that cost 8 grand, so cheap. Interior was rubbish. 2 litre, 4 cyl NA was sluggish but it was insured like an evo (cost me 4 grand a year). Insurance costs was why that had to go after a couple months.
The Dakota - After I had the lancer for a bit, I had a truck bug. Really wanted a Ranger but they are just overpriced atm. I needed 4x4 because I didn't want to get stuck everywhere. So I got a nice Dakota Laramie 4x4 with 125k for 10 grand. Optioned out. Nice truck. Too bad the engine is crap. 3.7 v6 that made 200 bhp and got 9mpg. Top it off with sawing at the wheel to keep it straight and a 4x4 system that didn't work in the rain (It wouldn't budge on a wet surface until 4X4 was disengaged) and it had to go.
The Volvo v40 - My roommate had gotten himself a v70 XC (P80 chassis, 99 model I believe) and I fell in love with it. It had the storage room I desired, awd, turbo. Exactly what I needed. So what do I buy? A purple v40 with 160k on it. Car cost me 2500 bucks and needed a LOT of work. And I did it. Reverse rake was fixed with a set of lowered springs, a broken window actuator was replaced, the stock black center console and shifter was replaced with OEM wood grain stuff. I loved this car. It was small and nimble for a wagon. But then the ABS module died. Dealer fix was 1200 dollars. I bought a used one for 30 bucks but swapping it was beyond my skill level so I sold the car for 2 grand.
And now I have an XC70. I have full intentions of modding this as well. V70 springs on XC70 struts for a 2 inch drop, downpipe and cat, ECU chip tune, intake for more whooshy sounds are in the near future. If I like it after a year, a high pressure turbo from a V70R is a big possibility.

I have always been tempted by the smaller wagons, especially the V40. but worried about the reliability of older european cars and their electricals.
I think read somewhere that this shares a chassis with the jaguar x type and ford mondeo, do you know if they share any parts.
Also how well did the car handle being a fwd wagon?

It actually shares parts with Mitsubishi Evo 3/Charisma, the 00-04 S/V40 were a joint venture between Mitsu and Volvo to make a cheaper/entry luxury car. An 04 is the only x40 platform I would buy, all of the others are pretty crap, especially a 2000. Lots of them just end up in junkyards these days because the parts cost almost a quarter of the cars value. Handle great though, small, thin steering wheel gave some great road feedback. Some understeer as to be expected from a FWD but nothing that was unmanageable.
