And took some more detailed pics for ya'll.
Saturday, paid the mechanic the money that the lady I bought the car from owed him so I could get it home. Then I sprayed some MAF cleaner into the air tube, which fixed the revving problem (the car would only rev to 2200 rpm, which I hear is commonly a MAF issue on 90's Nissans). Put some air in one of the tires that was low, jumped her off, and then with a buddy following in my Fiat, trekked 20 miles through the ice back to my house. She does 75-80 easily, no fuel issues, no misfiring, heat and A/C works, no leaks besides the rack and pinion which leaks a quart in less than 10 miles. So most of that drive was made without power steering, in a rwd car, on 1/2 inch of ice. Man what a blast!
On Sunday, I took the battery to work to test/charge it, found out it was bad, and was able to warranty it, since it was one of ours. I also picked up some throttle return springs to jury rig the hood latches into working properly again, as at the time someone had to jimmy the hood release while someone else banged on the hood to get it to open. Got both those put on, with my wife helping to tighten down the battery, so she could say she helped, and now she starts reliably, runs well, and the hood is workable. My next step is to clean up the interior, and get ahold of a rack and pinion so I can replace it, and see if she will pass inspection. (pretty sure she will, one of the shop managers I deal with said he'd gladly slap a sticker on her if I bring her up, regardless of minor issues that would fail her otherwise, as long as it wasn't anything unsafe) Then, I get to see about replacing the damaged body panels before I can start my build proper. Stay tuned for more in the coming weeks!

Are you planning to do away with the slushbox?

A: Cool project

B: Does your plan involve swapping out the slushbox? I'm assuming it does.

C: Was it previously mauled by a bear?

A. Thanks!

Good to hear. Keep the updates coming. One of these days when my Z reaches a point that I consider the current phase "done" I'm going to unleash a summary build thread. Keep getting pictures and records and I would love to see one for this project and where it ends up.

Congrats on the new s14! One question tho:

Whats your thoughts on a safe price for an auto? Im really looking hard for one, and the idea of doing the manual swap on a cheap auto seems doable.

Hopefully I can stay on track, I have a tendency to get bored of my projects and sell them, but this time I am determined.

Well, I paid a total of 750 for mine, but that is honestly a crazy NPoNP win. Anything less than 1500-1700 bucks, if it runs, would be reasonable for an auto in so so condition, imho.

It comes down to the spend a little extra for the manual or go cheap for the auto...

Thanks for the input. Gives me a better idea of when to walk away or stay to play.

Good luck with the build! Hope to see some slidy slide action soon.

That's my biggest hurdle... that and money. There never seems to be enough money.

Looks like a fun project car, for some reason I read your title as "did some one work on my project car over the weekend?"

You've mentioned the planned de-automating of your transmission in a couple other comments, but I'm curious:

Planning on dumping that KA? SR's can be had for pretty cheap (although their price has somewhat artificially inflated, because apparently Paul Walker says that they fetch a pretty high price near race day). CA's can sometimes be had for even cheaper, and I've been told firsthand by a guy that rocked one in his S13 that they are fun as hell (he said he preferred it over the SR, and considered it comparable to an RB20). Depending on how much you want to throw at it, RB20's can be had for reasonable prices as well, and people's eyes do this dinner-plate thing when they assume SR and you get to say "Nope, RB", which is always nice.

I plan to keep the KA for the forseeable future, and a redone intake, custom exhaust, and hotter cams are all in my plan. Eventually if I want more oomph than the n/a KA can provide, I will either turbo it like a baus, or go insane and give the old 350 in my garage a new home.
