I haven't been on oppo in a while, not car related, life stuff after the jump.
Over the past couple months it seems that life just sort of came running at me with knives. I'm picking classes for senior year right now. And pretty soon I'll be writing to universities. I talked about it with a good friend of mine, and we're both kind of feeling the same thing. We feel like we're not at all ready for college and life after high school in general. Anyone else feel like this or have before?

I graduated from high school 30 years ago, but some things are ageless. The stress of this time of your life is one of these things. If you look at everything that you face for the next 5-10 years, it can be overwhelming. If you look at the next task at hand, and finish that before looking at the next task after that, you'll find that it's all very doable. Make a list; check things off.
The transition from HS to college, moving away from home (maybe), selecting a career, planning your future adult life, is a helluva a thing. It can be daunting. However, this is also a terribly exciting time of life. You're finally really cutting the cord (or at least making the first few snips), you're setting out on your own, you're becoming a (hopefully) responsible adult. There are numerous examples of people who fail horribly at this. But if you make good choices, rely on your family and trusted peers, and watch out for your own self and your own interests, you'll have a bloody great time. Good luck!
PS: If you think transitioning to college is scary, try getting married and making small humans that will look to you for everything for the next 18-20 years. THAT'S terrifying.

College Sophomore here. Best advice I can give you is keep in touch with your good buddies from HS. I went out-of-state for school and most of them stayed in-state. Do not fear the future, embrace it and make sure your friends will be a part of it. We all have the same feeling that we'll stick together for life and it helps a lot. Make time for them whether it's on break or just cyber space.
Also, don't be afraid to raise some hell your senior year (after you're accepted into college). Don't go to prison/jail, but make it memorable.

I have a group of like 4 or 5 of my best friends that we plan on staying that way long after school is done. Thanks for the advice.

Thanks, as for the kids situation I don't think I'll ever be ready for kids.

Trust me, once you actually get to college and settle into your new life, you won't want to go back.
PRO TIP: Take an easy course load during the first semester, if you can. That way you can put some real effort into making friends and stuff.

I usually can make friends pretty easily, but I was thinking I wanted to take mechanical engineering in college so maybe some other BS courses can go along with that.

I'm about to graduate from college and I love it. But I also enjoyed high school and am very ready to graduate & start living in the real world. Really College can be a great time, just do the work you're supposed too and have fun …. it is college after all.
Final points - studying something you love really should be considered, and drink good beer. You'll enjoy life more.

Eh, easy to say that now. You've got plenty of other things on a your plate. Which is to say, always wear a rubber, dude.

Man, at least you were drinking decent beer. When I was in college, all we could afford was Milwaukee's Best, Busch, or some other rotgut brew. If we had something in a bottle we felt like we had hit the lottery.

Thanks … and it never hurts to have your own beer pong table too.
But real talk, college can be whatever you want it to be. So make it whatever that is.

Ha, well thanks. My friends and myself kind of pride ourselves in being knowledgeable about craft beer, it is trendy right now after all.
But don't worry, whenever I find myself at a big state school there are still plenty of people with 30 packs around.
