Kinja'd!!!

One little sentence.

One little sentence is all it took, and my day was semi-ruined. A flood of crap came rushing back into my heart/head. The self doubt. The slight pain. The slight deflation of my ego.

Oh well, onward and upward.

What sentence?

"I missed my period"?

"My dad wants to meet you at the gun range"?

"How do you feel about me getting a pink Prius"?

Forget her. Women often don't appreciate what they have, and won't admit they screwed up once they lose it.

There's better out there, and that's exactly what you deserve.

The first one is enough to strike terror in any young man's heart... my girlfriend did that for April fools last year, I was not pleased in the slightest.

"I have something to tell you" followed by a long pause. My GF got me with that last night, just to say " I love you" after about 5 minutes. The first time i met her dad was at a gun range.

Let me guess, "Is it in?"

I'M KIDDING!

Seriously ... what was the lamentable sentence?

Thanks, but not really fitting in this instance. I mean, it was a women, but not my significant other (I'm happily married). This woman I work with just really hung me out to dry (my opinion).

Cliff notes: I'm anti-social/shy. I do not open up easily. I did to this woman, tried to be friends with someone new. Got crushed, horribly after about 1.5 years of what I thought was a great blossoming friendship. Didn't hurt she is very attractive, charming, funny, intelligent, and down to earth. My wife knew I had a crush on this woman as well. Didn't bother her. I'm faithful and my wife knows that. No harm no foul. So I gave up months ago after it was made clear to me that she obviously was not on the same page as I was. But then she said something today that made me think about all of that again. Just had to get it off my chest.

That's mean.

And as long as all guns are pointed down range and everyone is smiling in a non-evil way , it's all good.

My comment still holds weight to some degree then. If you're that guarded and shy, then you probably make a great confidant.

Her loss.

Ouch. I think I would cry if I ever heard that.

This is likely why people such as you and me are anti-social. Seems it does more harm than good to let your guard down...

Er, I'm probably not helpful...

She's normally about as twisted with her humor as I am. My only response was if she had the money to split the cost of a trip to planned parenthood.... So simple, yet absolutely the best I've ever been pranked on April Fool's.

Thanks. That is basically what I came to realize. I even talked it over with my wife when it all fell apart, and she kind of said the same thing. Her loss of a good friend.

I mean, I have to work with this woman. I am still "friendly" with her, and professional, and cordial, but reserved, like I am with everyone else.

I get it man. We spend almost as many waking hours with our coworkers as we do with our SOs. It's hard to not be able to trust those people.

Nope, you are right on. I was talking to one of my two best buddies about it and basically used lots of profanity and how I never should have tried to be a "better person" for making new friends. Went back into my shell and closed off to everyone else again. Still have those I care for in my tiny circle (more of a triangle since it is only 3 people) of friends and called it done.

Yup. Done.

I had a lot of friends once, luckily I made them over the internet so one day I just quit using IRC, my life got a lot better. I have my wife now, and my brother and immediate family. That's plenty of people for me...
