Anyone up for a theme day today? We've been a bit short on them lately. Let's see your off-road rigs, Oppo. Doesn't matter where you live, there's always places to go where the roads just won't take you. So whether you blast through the dunes, crawl up rock piles, slog over snowy logging roads, bump around desert trails, tear up rally stages, or roll door-handle deep through the swamp, show us what you do it in.

This is my '86 K5 Blazer. My dad and uncle bought it new as a birthday present for my Grandpa. My dad bought it back about ten years ago, I bought in as a partner about two years ago, and bought my dad out a few months ago.

It's bone stock except for a cattle guard and Hella lights. It's lived down in Mexico for the last ten years, where it's had tough duty hauling people and beer to various remote fishing and spearing spots around Southern Baja, serving as the beach party rig, and towing the boat, which is much too heavy for the truck.

It's starting to wear down a bit, so in a few months it gets to come back home to a life of relative leisure in California where I shall lovingly restore it and keep it forever. A better Mexico truck there never was.

Well, then, permit me to make your jellies explode. This one's mine, we're rebuilding a five door and a SWB pickup for two of my brothers, there's a LWB pickup and another SWB station wagon, my cousin's SWB pickup, and we may get another five door in a few months. That'll be seven .

Far be it from me to point out that you'll have to clone yourself at least a few times to drive them all off - plus a few extra clones to die off as battle casualties. Couldn't you just, like... borrow them as needed? Saves on the future intra-clone bickering over whose Rover is best.

Kinja'd!!!

Just got her in October and she's still a daily driver/winter beater (until I purchase the winner of my personal 2015 muscle car showdown) so just a 3" lift for now. Planning on new tires ASAP, thinking of setting up a rear hatch mount for the spare, and I'm on the casual craigslist lookout for a decent brushguard/winch/lights/front bumper setup. I'm gonna need a bigger tax refund.

Pretty badass dude.

For the winch you may want to think about installing a front hitch-receiver and mounting plugs on the front and rear bumpers. Then you can mount the winch to a hitch and pop it right in on either the front or back. It's also nice to be able to just leave it in the garage when you don't need it. I just did it on my Tahoe, and I don't know how I ever lived without it. Plus there's the added bonus of not having to cut shit up to get the winch to clear.

I hear you. I'm sure they have a bolt-on front receiver kit for your truck. Super easy, just bolts right to the frame like a grille guard. Only problem I had was that the bottom bar of my grille guard blocked the receiver, so I had to have a fabricator cut a chunk out of the lower bar and weld in a big section of square tubing for the hitch to pass through.

I got the play around this morning in a big construction zone this morning on my way into work. Its not the best DD (though its not bad...aside from mileage) but holy hell is this a good overland truck, and not terrible as a crawler (aside from the pathetic departure angle)

Kinja'd!!!

The 2 inch lift will help (a little) but it will still have a worse departure than a 2014 forester.

Wow, that's crazy. Didn't know that.

I avoid crawling when possible. I have fun off-roading, but I never just go for no reason. I always have a destination. And since I'm usually the only truck, I'll just find a way around anything that looks like it could get me stuck or break my truck. And basically that means narrow passes, stretches of soft sand longer than my winch cable, and especially rock piles.

2002 Ford Ranger class 7300 desert race truck. Built by Bunderson Racing of Las Vegas. 4.0L race motor, C4 race transmission with manual valve body, quad bypass Fox shocks, 35 inch BFGs, 40 gallon fuel cell, PCI intercom, light bar with 4 KC HID lights that can be installed and removed in less than a minute.

Also it makes happy noises

there were enough holes in the floor so it drained out pretty quickly. It wasn't the best in the mud, I really set it up more for technical obstacles and general trail riding

And I wanted the Rover V8 he just came into possession of.

Also, it turns out that I have the ability to drive a 4 speed Landy gearbox with unsynchronized 1st and 2nd.

RamblinRover and I drove that thing from Asheville to Atlanta one year. That was the year of cooling problems

I don't know whether it's standard MOD for all years or not, but that variant of the hood on a standard Series is referred to as a "Deluxe". The non-option hood on a typical Series has a hard edge like so:

Kinja'd!!!

I just did a quick GIS, and it appears likely, however, that late in the lifespan of the SIII the Deluxe became standard equipment. It also appears to have been fitted to at least some MODs...

Kinja'd!!!

EDIT: At first glance, this one didn't appear to have exterior hood catches, but I think it actually does. Must be some barmy MOD thing... not remotely a normal thing to see on an SIII.
