Time now to visit the church of the M. My prediction is that this is going to be a battle betwixt the E30 and E46, but the 36 and 90 might have some surprises up their Bavarian sleeves.

Kinja'd!!!

Next up the M5s. I'm guessing the 39 is going to runaway with this, the real spot to watch is who's second.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Finally lets look at the big picture, what the best platform for the Motorsport treatment. I thought about dividing this among all the generations, but opted to keep it simple.

I apologize profusely if this has been posted a bunch of times, me and Kinja are not getting along

My favorite BMW continues to be the E34 M5 Touring, with the 1 Series M coming in a close second. An E90 M3 sedan is in third.

This car utterly destroyed the S650 Oppo race series on Forza 4.

Literally. As in the series had to be scrapped because, even with the car properly adhering to all regulations and restrictions, it came in first in every heat of every race I drove it in.

Favorites are the E36 M3 and the E39 M5 with the E90 M3 coming up in the third position. I also would like to extend an honorable mention to the e30; a car which I would daily drive happily.

Poser? You can get the M235i with an LSD, and it's apparently faster around a track than the 1M. What makes the 1M superior, other than limited availability (and hydraulic steering)?

Haha because I was looking at an ad for a used Ferrari F430 spider 6MT that advertised a 144 month loan. That would make it maybe possible for me to afford the monthly payment. Not right now, but some day before I'm a grandpa.

I'm so obsessed with the idea of using a financially irresponsible loan to get a Ferrari sooner than later that I had to change my username ;)

Oooooh- mirror caps! I forgot about those. Hmm...maybe I should hunt down some pics on m3post. I'm sure someone has both on a space gray car. Although I do fear that might lead logically to a carbon performance spoiler as well. M3 problems =)

haha it is funny how car addicted i've become. i can't afford the cars i have right now yet i'm dreaming about adding a car that's more expensive than anything i have now. at least now my username references my car addiction like yours does :)

this is the plan i came up with on how to avoid bankruptcy from the loan:

1. make sure to sell at least one of my current cars to get rid of one current car loan before getting into a new loan

2. make sure to save up more than the 20% down that's required so that i have some extra cushion to handle the increased monthly car loans and increased insurance and maintenance costs

3. make sure not to buy a new car. it has to be at least 3 years old. the one in the add is a 2008. i want a modern one but don't want a brand new 458 that will lose a ton of value when the new model comes out

4. limit the number of miles i put on the new addition for the first year or two to minimize the depreciation in case i have to sell it

5. make sure the loan doesn't have a pre payment penalty so that i can work hard and occasionally pay more than the minimum monthly payment to bring down the principal and reduce the length of the loan

6. put off marriage and kids for at least a couple more years. also no more vacations for at least 18 months after the one i'm taking in april

7. pay off the remainder of the loan my old man gave me to help my buy my new house before getting new addition

8. pay off the remainder of the loan i took from my 401K before getting new car

this is the level of detail i've got into so far, haha

i'm using the potential future car as motivation to work hard and pay down current debts

My friend actually got VAC (in Philly) to put a cf roof on his E90 330. There's a huge post documenting it. It might be in the cards eventually. I've never used the sunroof in this car even though I used it all the time in my E92. No idea why. The big leap would be convincing myself to deviate from the build sheet. So far I haven't done anything that isn't easily reversible.

No more vacations? Borrowing from your 401k? Ha! You are addicted!

Kill off that debt, but be cautious taking on new loans. It's awesome to have fun cars, but what's greater is the freedom that comes along with having zero debt.

I'm in a different place in my life (married w/ 3 kids), but I'm looking forward to having no debt but our mortgage very soon.

Maybe an Exige or Alfa 4C would be a good stand in for a Ferrari?

I am addicted for sure!

Debt is bad. But I am worried that if I don't do it while single I won't be able to later. Life will get in the way. I can always sell the car later. I can't go back in time and be single with a ferrari though :)

An exige or alfa would be smarter. But I've dreamed about an F car since I was 6. And my old man has two so that makes the want that much stronger...

I think I'll be able to be safe about it. Right now it's just an idea. I gotta pay debt down before taking on any more.

Funny thing is that it's also kind of a way to feel better about not being settled. I don't think the car will get me girls. But it might help me feel a little better about having a ton of bad luck with them in the last 5 years. I'd rather be married with 3 kids too right now but it wasn't in the cards. You can't rush finding the right person, but you can get some joy from flat plane crank V8 revs :)

Getting married to the wrong person is far worse than a big pile of debt!

Owning a Ferrari definitely sounds like a dream of yours (not sure of a car guy for whom it isn't!) - making a dream come true (getting my M3 was one for me) and marking it off your bucket list is a great feeling, that's for sure, and it sounds like if you do it, you're going to go about it in the most sensible way possible. Honestly, with classics/exotics, it's possible to buy and enjoy a car and then sell it for as much, if not a bit more, than you bought if for! Just have to choose the right one. Which does your dad have? Maybe you can "rent" one from him for a couple years - ha! (I assume you saw this- http://www.petrolicious.com/wistfully-watc… )

All the best - hope the stars align so that you can own the car you want, if only for a short time, and that the right woman comes into your life soon as well.

Exactly! While taking a loss on selling a Ferrari would suck it wouldn't be 0.0001% as bad as getting divorced.

It's funny that you say which car guy wouldn't want to have one as I've seen a lot of people on Oppo say that Ferraris suck.

The M3 is an awesome car. I'm still trying to sell my E46 but definitely keeping the E90. It's so useful to have a fun car that also has 4 doors and a decent size trunk. I wish I could keep both the M3s but right now I need to improve my cash flow and start saving not only for a possible exotic in the future but also because it's the right thing to do. I need to reduce my debt load and if the possible exotic helps motivate me that's a good thing even if I am not able to buy the car or have to put it off for a while. After I bought my new house last year I was living paycheck to paycheck for a short while and that was stressful. Things are a lot better now and I want to keep paying down debt.

You're right the best classic or exotic is one that you can buy and then sell for the same or more if you have to sell. My plan with the possible future purchase is to hold it for the long run. So that way even if I buy a newer car that will depreciate for a while it might eventually start going up and become an asset once it's paid off. It will be something that I could sell if I have some bad luck and need cash.

I had not seen that Petrolicious post, thanks for sharing. I will check it out later today.

My dad has an F430 Spider and a 612. The 612 is his DD. He got it used last year for about $130K. Hell of a deal for how much speed and luxury it provides. He was originally thinking about a Panamera GTS but I talked him into looking at the 612 :) He does let me drive the cars (I actually helped with the down payment on the F430 to have that right but I don't help out on the monthly payments or insurance/maintenance costs). But driving his cars isn't the same as owning one. I always have to be super careful and I'm always paranoid about even the smallest scratch happening because they're not my cars.

Thanks for the well wishes. We'll see what happens with the car and with women. I swear it's easier to find a way to afford an exotic than it is to find a good girl in So Cal! I hope everything is going well with your family. It must be both a handful and totally awesome to have 3 kids. I love kids and want to have as many as my future wife is willing to have.

Glad all is going great. That must have been exciting to have the little guy's 1st bday party. His siblings probably had just as much fun if not more than he did.

Haha I will definitely write up a detailed post on what I selected, why I selected it, and the purchase process if I get an exotic. I would drive across the whole country if needed if it's necessary to find the options I want at the price I want. My dad has driven cars back from TX and NY to CA. He has had a great time enjoying the road trip.

I spent way too much time researching cars yesterday. It was fun though :)
