Well I found a few videos of the car with UEL headers and a straight pipe. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Damn is it loud.

Don't want to be an asshole all the time just on a fun back road(or when I decide to just go for a drive rather than go anywhere) or autocross/track.

Ugh, not to be the black sheep but that literally sounds like a wet asshole flapping hard over a toilet bowl after a night of mexican food. Do not straight pipe your 4cyl car.

No you are totally right. It does not sound that great. I don't plan on straight piping it. I was thinking of using it for autocross and track events. You lose a little weight, and gain a little power. . . probably. Plus no one cares at a track how loud your car is.

Plus it would be fun to run straight pipes once in a while. Not idea for a DD though.

YO, the first and last videos..... they sound like fucking rally cars. DO THAT.

Putting on an aftermarket exhaust is usually enough of a weight drop if you have huge mufflers. Either way, 100lbs = 1/10th in the 1/4 mile, so dropping 20lbs at most is not going to be very noticeable at all.

edit: and i know you don't mean 1/4 mile track, I'm just using as a frame of reference

If a shop will make the pipe for under 100 bucks, I might just do it.

My car sounded kind like this on Christmas Eve when the flange broke:

YOU DON'T KNOW LOUD UNTIL YOU HAVE IT FOR 2 HOURS STRAIGHT!!!

Like that first video..... exactly like a rally car. It blew my mind honestly. I'd do it in a heartbeat. Fuck the neighborhood! (and your eardrums)

No I got yeah. I bought a catback for this, and I gained 2lbs!! The muffler itself is like 18lbs! But yeah it won't make much of a difference. I basically want it, when I want to have an extremely loud car. If that makes sense. I don't want to wake the neighbors up at 9am so I will keep the quieter catback for that.

Kinja'd!!!0

Oh I do. When replacing the catback I had the smart idea of driving it for a few miles without the exhaust. BEST IDEA EVER!!!! Would do it again, but not for 30 minutes everyday. Particularly in the morning. The muffler bypass would only be for track days/autocross/once in a while assholishness.

I don't want it on forever, just would be nice to make the car super loud once in a while.

Realistically, yeah that makes sense. If you have them on all the time, you'll become that guy everyone yells at while you drive by their house.

It has a big ass resonator and a really nice muffler. It is actually pretty quite until you decide to go full throttle, even then it isn't too loud. For example vs stock it was 2 decibels louder at WOT but just as quite else where.

What about exhaust cutouts instead? That way you don't have to be an asshole all the time. I'm installing them in my car. Just unbolt the caps when you want to bypass the muffler. If you have the money you can buy electric ones that open with the press of a button.

You could tune your car to make it sound and preform (Engine wise) like a rally car really simply with a lot of vehicles.

Oh there aren't electronic ones? This is beautiful! Although, I don't know how I feel about cutting the catback up. I will ask a shop which will be cheaper. I know the pipe I want will go from the V-band clamp straight to the ground. It will literally be like 7 inches long.

The reason they sound like they do is because they retard (delay) the spark timing, so that nothing gets ignited before the piston reaches TDC, because if it lit early it actually slows the engine down.

I guess new cars for the most part would need it done with the ECU but on older stuff, you can just undo a screw on the distributor and rotate it a bit, delaying spark.

straightpipes are cool.

don't wanna hijack your thread, but here's my trackpipe made from an aluminum baseball bat.

thought you might like.

Isn't it a little close to the body? That might just be me. Also, isn't aluminum really a bad idea for exhausts? Sound fracking awesome though.

no passenger for sure. but i trimmed the side bits up & it was good. there's a stainless pipe that slips into the factory pipe, and that pipe is inside the aluminum. no worries. the stainless pipe is now fluted a bit for backpressure. ram air tract is also smoothed for howl.

I got yeah. Who needs a passanger anyway! They way to much! How much was it to make that? It looks pretty cheap, I want to do something but I can't weld or bend pipes, so I need to go to a shop.

freebie ha. didn't weigh nothin' either. the street pipe was a 4 wheeler piece (supertrapp) with extra washers and the plates opened up some. made it so i could hear enough to talk through helmets.

Building a dune buggy with mk1 cabrio motor, it's happening, not sure for how long, but I'm going to do it.

Also may be getting a V70 XC for free (First car) and maybe I'll try it for a little while on there too.
