I vote Torino but only if a 5-speed finds its way into it.

If you would ever DD anything other than the Torino, I'm not sure you can be helped.

What kind of motor did that Mach 1 have?
![]() 02/05/2014 at 12:39 |

Torino

Get a manual Mach 1. A lot more special than the S-197s, and possibly less of a hassle than the Torino in legal terms.

this.

Absolutely not on that sorry, its gonna be getting an AOD from a FOX body Mustang. I need to drive it 250 miles+ from school to home when I do go home.

4.6L DOHC like a terminator Cobra with out the Supercharger and IRS and 6 speed
![]() 02/05/2014 at 12:42 |

Why do you say Legal terms?
![]() 02/05/2014 at 12:42 |
|
A n/a 4-valve per cylinder DOHC 4.6L V8, found in the SVT Cobra (n/a and S/C).

I don't know which state you're from but I know that in some parts of the US there are legal roadblocks to daily classic car ownership.

Mach 1. As someone said, more special than an S197 GT and more DDable than the Torino. I may be biased.
![]() 02/05/2014 at 12:46 |

Well the torino will be getting an AOD and a few other bits to make it DD able
![]() 02/05/2014 at 12:47 |

IL. Here we dont have to register it as an Antique if we don't want to.

Also aluminum block unlike the iron block in the Cobras of 03-04
![]() 02/05/2014 at 12:49 |
|
I thought they had the same blocks?
![]() 02/05/2014 at 12:49 |

I'd say Mach as you will constantly worry about the condition of a nice old Torino. Also, driving it everyday will make the car feel less special than it is because you will be in it all the time.
![]() 02/05/2014 at 12:51 |

Nope, the Terminator cobras were the only iron block variants as they needed the extra strength and cooling ability because blower!

zebra three, all the way.

Hmmm I see....THE MORE YOU KNOW!
![]() 02/05/2014 at 17:10 |

Torino is not your best choice, but you should pick it anyway.
![]() 02/05/2014 at 19:40 |

What, pray tell, makes the Torino currently not "DD able"?
![]() 02/05/2014 at 19:59 |

Tires that are 10 years old a 3-Speed C6, Vacuum Lines are shoddy, Kickdown doesnt always kick down, and exhaust has a hole in it.
![]() 02/05/2014 at 20:05 |

Hmm. Dunno if it's a bear to get a tranny for these things or not, but you could kill two birds with one stone and grab an MT for it (full disclosure, I had to Google "kickdown". I haven't heard that word in a long time). Vacuum issues, while not fun to diagnose, aren't particularly expensive to fix...usually. Tires are tires. Does the exhaust manifold have the hole, the downpipe, or the catback? If it's the downpipe or the catback, you could theoretically get it patched or w/e...If it's the manifold...well, you'd probably want to replace that too.
Ok, I see what you are getting at. This Torino sounds like it might be a few duckets to fix. That said, the thing is badass. Mustangs, while cool, powerful, and affordable, are common as hell. Torinos aren't, exactly (which is why I'd pick the Torino personally). Not to mention that, assuming the one in the picture is the one in question, it isn't a rust-bucket...in fact, it's sexy as hell!
Just my 2c

Ya its the one in the pic. Well I know the Exhaust is like 20 years old and my dad wants replaced and there are no cats on this puppy. Also a tranny from any 5.0L 89-90 ford will fit to the 351C CJ

Well (and again, this is my opinion. Do whatever you wanna do), I'd personally rather dump, say, $5K into making this car awesome, over dumping $5K into one of those Mustangs. Really it's unfair though. Ford makes the Mustang: It's fast, it's cheap, it's pretty reliable...The all-too-rare trifecta. Everybody and their grandmother buy 2. Now guys like me don't like em very much because they're "too common". A very strange catch-22.
![]() 02/05/2014 at 20:27 |

I mean ya they are common but how common is a Mach 1?
![]() 02/05/2014 at 20:28 |

common-looking*
