I am told my downpipes will ship the end of the week. I got new spark plugs (SP534's) ordered and will be ordering my tune and 170 degree thermostat today. The spark plugs and t-stat are recommended when tuning the 3.5EB, the downpipes should net a substantial gain in power on top of the tune. I am so EXCITE!

What kind of hp/tq numbers is that thing going to run w/ the downpipes? Why is it recommended to upgrade the plugs too?

How much power you looking to get out of it.

They are iridium plugs, apparently that's a good thing? Anyways, they also require a different (smaller gap) for the tuned motor of .030.
At the crank stock is 365/350, after tune + downpipes those numbers should be well over 400, I would say 420-440hp is out of the question, same for torque.

I am thinking I'll be approaching 430-ish horsepower at the crank. I don't have any set goal in mind, tune + downpipes are a two of the most substantial upgrades you can do for this car, meth-injection is also up there for monster-gains. Not sure I'll be doing that at any point thought.

That's awesome

Yeah I can't wait to turn the key, errr push the start button.

Have you or plan to swap the turbos

What about the drive train, how much can she take? I know you'r gains aren't too huge yet but I'm thinking of finding an Ecoboost Flex and turning up the power.
It would be the family truckster so reliability would be important. I would love to have a 430ish horsepower Minivan/Wagon.

This guy...onto something here with the high HP Flex. Reading about the ability to get big power of of the 3.5 EB sold me on the Flex more than I already was.
Of course, reading stuff on here the other day had forced me to look up the MKS to see if you could get an SHO in Lincoln clothing. you can.

Awesome!

The stock turbo's can be upgraded with a new wheel or you can by an upgrade kit with ATP turbo's, I don't plan on doing it any time in the near future, it's expensive, haha.

Yes, the drivetrain can take it, in fact there is a guy pushing over 600 horsepower out of his flex with stock transmission/awd system. The amount of money he has into it is astronomical though, haha.
I know a lot of people are at higher power levels than I will be and some have already run for 10,000+ miles, including frequent dragstrip runs. The 6F55 transmission has been very reliable.

Used 2010 Flex SELs with the Ecoboost are going for about $25,000. Seems like a fun family hauler that can be made pretty quick. It would be great have AWD for the snow and a platform that can do a bit of towing.
My concerns have to do with the moisture/intercooler issue and dirty intake valves associated with the direct injection. It seems like pulling and cleaning the intercooler tubing would be a major pain, let along removing the intake manifold to get to the intake valves.
How good is the PCV on the V6 Ecoboost? Do people ever install a catch can?

Yes, the MKS can be had for roughly the same price as a used SHO. You get 10 less hp, but that can be fixed with a tune that should a gain of much more than that, haha.
Anything with that motor in it can get unbelievable gains for a mere $600 for a tune.

Wow sounds impressive. Hope you post some vids after the install and tune.

Yeah, I'm planning on getting pics throughout and a video when it's all done.

Damn! That's gonna be a riot! How is that going to be on the tranny? I wonder how much extra juice those can handle or if you would need something like a transmission cooler or something like that.

I know I mention it a lot...but...my DD before I bought my Vette was an 07 Trailblazer SS. I had mine modded with tune and bolt-ons to the 450-460ish hp range...AWD, towed with it, put narrow steelies and blizzaks on it in the winter...I still have sellers remorse.

There is a transmission cooler available that they've started installing on the '13+ models. From what I hear these trannies have a lot of headroom and I am not anywhere near the limit with the mods I am doing so far. I do plan on getting that trans cooler at some point, I've read it keeps it much cooler during all driving situations.

Gotta love being able to make quick Q-ships.

Yea, I would say that the cooler would be a solid addition to ensure that you get the most life out of the tranny. My wife's uncle races a Boxster and he had to put a cooler on his because he grenaded three of them. Granted, those are much higher stress situations and that car is a manual, but the idea is that if you can keep everything cool in there, it will certainly last a hell of a lot longer.
Also, the 1997 Boxster that he races has a Jetta 5-spd (factory) in it. He races in the Cup Car class that I believe doesn't allow for tranny mods other than the cooler. But I digress.... :)

Yeah, that's what I've heard about transmissions, the cooler you manage to run them, the better.
No worries about the boxster story, because racecar.

I would love a SS TB, but three kids requires that one be in the third row. For road trips to be enjoyable, the children must not be touching.

Tuned Flex it is. Time for a sleeper.
