Whats with the transverse straight six and what looks like an axle tunnel running through the cabin? Sideways engine and rear wheel drive?

It's definitely FWD. I don't see a driveshaft in the undercarriage shots and that tunnel is way to short in the real to accommodate one.

Sideways engine, yes, but not RWD. Probably a tunnel for stiffness and exhaust piping. Looking at Wikipedia, apparently the exterior had both Alec Issigonis (Morris Minor, Mini) involved and Pininfarina.

Ahh, so the SWB model was rear wheel drive... How interesting they made that change but didn't bother removing the transmission tunnel.
