Not to go TURBO-MURRIKA or anything, but there isn't s single style of beer (now INCLUDING TRAPPIST) that america can't master and excel at. It's just our mass market beer that isn't too good. There's bad beer in other places, too, though.

I think it also shows that either a) advertisers are stupid or b) they are saying that they are marketing the product to the over 50 crowd that hasn't tried US craft beer in the last 10 years and think Becks is good.

Exactly. Anyone who has complained that American beer sucks is drinking Heinekken, Corona, etc. Which is only barely better than the mass produced lager junk we offer. When it comes to real beer, American craft breweries make it better than the English, Belgians or Germans.

The (video —ed.) comment is silly in present times, that's for sure .

Way to stereotype Mr. Dylan.

I remember in the 70's when craft beers were far and few between, and the Germans did (and still do) brew a fine bunch'a beers. One of my best vacations was Germany, and every 20 miles or so we'd stop at another hamlet or town, and enjoy their local brew. It doesn't travel there and everyone in the local area is rabid about their own products. Loved it.
But by the time the 90's hit here, that was done. The US was opening 5 brew pubs every week in 1989 and that growth continued. (I was making that move, but my location of choice bombed, then one thing led to another, got promoted, and ended up staying in tech for another 10 years.)
Still, I like the retro "yay america" theme in a nostalgic kinda way. Very 1950's. Too bad it's playing on a series of myth's that are only marginally true instead of generally true, now.
