Just remembering the 1992 (1 of 1000~) Supra I had that had to be written off because an idiot at work hit the gas instead of the brakes (he always drove like a douche). It had a 1993 SC300 2JZ-GE, original W58, N/A MKIV flywheel, MKIII Supra clutch and a bellhousing off an IS300.
Anyone else here lose your precious vehicle because of a moron?

Yes...with me always being the idiot.

Google "My Crappy Saturn Ruined My Life". It'll be the first result. It'll probably also autocomplete at "My Crappy Saturn".

yes, been rear ended in three different cars whilst stationary at red lights

Yep. Me too. Did you know fire hydrants really do gush water about 5 - 10 feet high when they get clipped by an '86 VW Golf? They're also really heavy and cost about $300 to replace, in 1994 dollar at least.

I lost my Legacy Wagon when some idiot decided to slam on their brake after a blind corner to make an illegal U-turn. Their cheap junker suffered two cracks in their rear bumper, the front end on the legacy was destroyed.

My dad lost his U12 Bluebird SSS with an SR20 in it to a drunk driver and an Accord Si-R to a car thief. Those were the two coolest cars he ever owned and they were taken away from him which is why he drives a boring Lexus LS now ;D

Ain't that the truth? The guy still drives the Ranger every day, no real damage done to him. What the pics don't show is he also hit my co-worker's Tacoma. Took out the fender, bumper and headlight.

....am I missing something? If the engine shot is an after photo, that looks completely drivable

Yup. Lost my 1992 Ford Tempo when someone turned left right in front of it, at a light with the cops directing traffic, the cops were telling him to stop.

Some people shouldn't be allowed to drive. The tests are just too easy in the states so we end up with people like this on the road who don't know what they're doing.

Fender, bumper, signal, trim, headlight, and A pillar were fucked.

I would have been fine with a write off like that. I would have bought back the car, moved the parts to a new chassis bought with the pay off check, and done a few extra mods with the remaining money.
Now my 300ZX was a write off...

My first BMW was smashed by an idiot behind the wheel of one of the newer body Tundras when they first came out back in o5'. He was used to smaller cars he said, and didn't really express much concern about the situation. In contrast, I wanted one of his hands as payment for my grievances. Sitting that low and seeing your driver's window full of Tundra grill is not a good thing to see. I had bought this IX from the original owners with all records and pet names all that good stuff, found it through the BMW club with the help of friends, and flew out to Chicago from Denver just to pick it up. Too bad this one had to die, but it got me hooked on E30's and have owned a couple more since.

Lost my Ford Aerostar when it got hit by a jackass in a Dodge Durango running a stop sign, who also didn't bother to stop afterwards and just drove off. At the time I didn't really think much of losing it, but now I kind wish I still had it, how many Aerostars do you see with a 5-speed manual?
Not my car, but very similar.

I got T Boned in a parking lot at my college campus. I was driving on the road going around the perimeter of the parking spots in a 2000 Grand Prix GT. A dipshit moron toolbag in a Saturn SC was going down a row of spots at about 35 mph (!!) - body repair and police speed estimate - and hit me right in the passenger door. His car did the usual Saturn thing and fell apart and mine had a 12 in deep dent from the edge of the front fender to the rear passenger door. He spun me 270°. I walked away without as much of a headache. Both cars were totaled, I took the $5,000 and bought a Grand Cherokee.
God that Grand Prix was comfortable for highway driving.

Lol, yes, yes. I did indeed get helped out of that predicament by many generous Jalops. But the question posed was about mistakes, not recovery.

The insurance told the body shop to only paint one spot. The fender, bumper, upper bumper, , hood, headlight, and most importantly, the a-pillar all received damage. Don't get me wrong, I got a nice fat check, but the estimates to repair it were in the thousands, and it took over 6 months to see a single penny. I got to keep the car, which I then sold.

only if i get to be the moron. went to pick a friend up at a bar, got smashed, on the way home a cop had a lady stopped at an intersection, i thought it would be a good idea to powerslide the corner. my intake baffles were plugged, so it made glorious noise. & i did, & the cop chased, & i ran. made it home, sent my friend over the fence & met the cop in the driveway. he started the fight, i finished it. spent the weekend for assault, all charges dropped because video showed him punching me in the head while my hands were up. really, really wish i had a copy of that video. we tossled for about 10 minutes with him screaming for backup. my parents came out & stopped the fight. that DB scratched my watch, too. anyway, since i didn't get enough punishment my parents took the 5runner, my nova, and my dirtbike away for a year. live, but learn.

oh, my brother got the 5runner, he's run it into the ground. wrecked 3 times, twice his fault, once his gf's, it has a badass sound system, but the shocks, steering, and transmission are shit. & it's beginning to go through coils. if i get it back (if it gets any worse i'll let it go), i'd like to stick my furd cab on it & build a flatbed.

I lost my beloved 1991 Civic hatchback. She had 235,ooo miles and I had her for 2 and a half years which is the longest I've ever had a car. I was rear ended by a 16 year old girl who was texting in her Dad's Olds Aurora.
But I didn't REALLY lose it. Now we bomb it around my father in law's field.

For me it was when I was waiting to turn left at a green light and the car behind me saw the green light and some how didn't see my car.

A Z32 turbo is one car I want to have eventually. For a car to be 20 years old and still look modern is quite an accomplishment.

Yep. The Z32 was on the list next to the FD3 RX-7 for me. I have had other RX-7s, but I haven't had an FD yet. Eventually I will get another Z32 and an FD3 to have side by side in my garage with my 240Z(s) and whichever muscle car restomod I decide to sink money into.

Ha. A field car, that is awesome.

Indeed field bombing is the closest I've gotten to enjoying any kind of motor sport from behind the wheel. We had a track around the property and actually ran timed runs. It is great to be able to drive a car at it's limits with no fear or the cop, or hurting other people. I've my fare share or spins, and understeer slides off the track and into the brush, but so far we haven't hit a tree and wrecked the car. The most fun I had was on a day when it was raining, so everything was mud and mush, and I I spun off the track or could break and over shot a corner several times. I can't wait till the snow melts and we can run it again. If you have access to a field and 500 bucks to buy an old manual trans economy car I highly recommend it. Also we're thinking we might pile up some money and buy something rear wheel drive this spring for more of a challenge.

I lost my '78 Town Coupe to a drunk driver running a red, at 8:00 in the morning. Guy was in a full-size Buick and hit me right in the driver's door at 40ish mph.
That pissed me off.

Never been in a wreck in which I was driving myself, but I was in my dad's Lexus when a lowered 90's Civic going 30-35 ran through two red lights and T-boned him in the passenger side as he was going through an intersection. I was in the passenger seat, I was scared ****less and got my leg and arm bruised up but other than that I was ok.
The worst part was that two of them got out of the car and ran after it happened. At least one of them stuck around.

Yes, I sold my 1986 Nissan 4x4 that I bought for $1500 with an entire box full of service history because I thought I couldn't afford to put gas in it. I thought I could afford to buy another one after I got a job. I was an idiot. But even though I could scrape together enough money now, any other truck just isn't going to be the same.
