The only reason to put a liftback on a car is so you can fit bigger things in it. If you are not gonna do that, why not just get a standard deck-lid trunk? If you want one for the space, why not get the most space? The car is going to get heavier because of the lift back anyway, so why not take full advantage?
BMW will sell you three liftbacks in the same segment now. Which one should you get? If your looking for the most cargo room, the answer becomes obvious. You might not care about that, but then what reason do you have to get the other two? Why not just get the standard decklid?

I personally prefer the look of a liftback, and the wagon is too trendy anyway, so I'd rather have a liftback than the sedan or the wagon.

Because the one on top is for idiots, the one in the middle is for idi...nvm.
They're all for idiots.
Just buy the X3 and be happy with your miserably lives.

Besides the 'GT' and the wagon, what's the third liftback in the segment? I assume the 4 GC is a sedan.
Anyway, I certainly don't want an oddly proportioned 'GT'. If I need the practicality I'd get the wagon, but the wagon is quite common here (Europe...) which would make me consider less practical alternatives as well.

GC is a liftback.

I'll take a wagon if I want a practical vehicle, and a 4GC if I want a sedan (sorry, it just looks heaps better than the F30 sedan). The 3GT has no purpose.
I also saw one of them today. They don't look better in person.

No wife and kids, the choice is easy for me.
