I actually think those are neat. Small, light, good on gas, convertible, and CHEAP! Same reason the Geo Metro convertible piques my interests every now and then.

I had one for years. Cheap drop top fun, parts are very easy to come by (well they are in Australia), and you won't be like evvveryone else in a Miata.

Ford Australia also did a Laser, which was a 323 based ( if memory serves me) 4wd turbo that some ford head office personnel were driving around with a hollowed bolt in vacuum pipe that basically tripled the boost . Apparently it was a VERY fun drive.

Because deep down you want a Miata and this is a front wheel drive budget version of that. You'll be disappointed. find and buy a cheep Miata.

I haven't seen a running Turbo Capri in over a decade. From what I remember, it has a 1.6 Mazda engine worked over by Ford Australia and putting out about 130 hp with a predilection toward ignition problems. But for $1400, it could be a fun summer runabout

Don't be tempted - that thing is a POS compared to a Miata, even similarly-priced, and less, not "moar" fun.

There're scads of Miata's around here (I live in Raleigh), surely something to fit in your budget.
