I've accepted an engineering job in Detroit and I'll be moving there in a few weeks. I'm really excited.
Any advice? Good neighborhoods to check out besides Royal Oak? Places to store my Lemons car and work on it? Ways to ship a car without an engine?

Don't venture to the suburbs. That's my only advice.

Step One: Remove Engine
Step Two: Find a flat surface and aim a portal at it
Step Three: Have another person do the same at the place you want the car to go
Final Step: Push car through hole in spacetime. DO NOT TOUCH THE FLAMING EDGES.

Is everything outside downtown considered suburbs? I'll be working in Auburn Hills

Ooh, good neighborhood for Lemons racing. Spring race gingerman, 24 hour at Joliet. Look for the Breadvan and say hi!
This is its old livery
Here's its inspiration!

Check the post, I replied. Being a long time endurance racer, I wasn't enthusiastic in my response.
That engine is high in Jalop/Lemons appeal but I hate the tragedy of all that cost and work going to waste when it blows a head gasket, or throws a rod bearing because its an old, un prepared street motor. If you want to finish, put something in that has a reputation for finishing, that is completely rebuilt.
I lost 3 chevy V6 engines to oil starvation and water pump cavitation before figuring out how to make them live back in the day. Those were completely rebuilt and fresh, not old street motors. I don't think an old, "run when parked" Jag motor will last 3 hours racing.

Yeah, it would definitely explode hilariously. It looks like one of my teammates is going to get a small block chevy with an auto that we can throw in the car. It'll hopefully be pretty reliable.

My opinion; new Head gaskets, intake gaskets, good oil pan mandatory. Also, if you can drive it with synthetic oil for a while to clean it out may be of merit.
I just have never seen a street motor last for more than an hour or two. My theory is the head gaskets are dry, get stressed, blow and the loss of coolant kills them, or the lack of a good pickup cools them, or getting heated up breaks free all the sludge and plugs the pickup.
I remember watching a 5 year old S2000 with a street motor at an endurance race blow up, what a waste.

Bloomfield Hills (Township too). Fox Hills neighborhood on Opdyke & South Blvd. Grew up there, very nice ranch style homes with full yards. It bumps up right next to Auburn Hills. Anything along Woodward is close enough to where you're working.
