Inspired by Logansteno's post about the Patriot, I decided to play around with the build and price feature on Jeep's website to see which of the small Jeeps (the Patriot, the Compass, and the Cherokee) could be made the most expensive.
In third place, after taxes, a $5,000 instant discount, and including a lovely CVT, is the Patriot, at $31,955. No one will look quite as cool as you in your retro-style future wagon!
In second place with a $1,500 discount and some funky tan interior thing is the Compass, at $35,560! According to Justin Hughes, it also !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .
And in first place, at an eye-watering $44,155 after a $500 discount, is the Cherokee! It also may be the only one that anyone will ever be interested in driving.
So, would any Opponauts willingly pay this much for these vehicles? Or what would it take to be motivated to drive them? A steeper discount? An ice pick lobotomy? Sound off in the comments!

I wonder what the comparative pre-option margin on different cars are. I bet that most Jeeps are on thinner margins than most non-luxury cars.

That's with every single available option box checked though.
I optioned up an Cherokee Trailhawk V6, with most of the options checked, but no navigation or active driver aid bullshit, and it came to $38,160. Which is still not cheap, but also not $44k.

But, You can get a 4-wheel drive Patriot Sport with a couple options for about $20k. Which is pretty good to be honest.

Fair enough, but I went into this with the "let's make this the most expensive" mindset, not the "what would a reasonable person pick" one.

The one I optioned the way I'd like it was $21,000. Not bad at all, but for some reason, that still feels like too much. When there haven't really been any major changes to it, I'm sure I could find a well optioned one on the cheap on the used market.

I would add Renegade to that list.

I checked the invoice pricing on a loaded up Cherokee, and it's about $2k less than MSRP.

I got curious and hopped on Criagslist to see how much they are used. A 2012 Limited with like 40k miles was $13k.

That doesn't seem too bad.

I haven't driven one so I probably shouldn't judge it so quickly.

could be worse, they could be german cars. "oh, sir would like the technology package? that require the nav package and sunroof package. Okay and you want heated seats? winter package, all weather package added. Okay, your 49,000 macan is now $104,000
EDIT: holy crap, i got a 79 grand macan turbo up to 141 grand!

Seems to be a narrow margin, about what, 5%? Makes me wonder if Fiat or Chrysler sales are subsidizing narrow Dodge and Jeep margins.

Thanks for the shout out!
In contrast, I just built a Compass identical to the one I drove, which comes out to $19,340. The only options are 4WD in the so called Sport package and a 6-speed automatic. I'd prefer the manual, of course, knocking the price down to just over $18,000.
Actually, I'd prefer to just buy a $5000 rally car and do it right.

I bought a 2015 Cherokee for less than half that. I don't understand how options can be worth as much as a second base model.
