This is not a normal year in review. This isn't a list of my favorite cars to come out in 2014, or my favorite cars I've driven. This is a massive photo dump of my favorite cars that I've seen and been able to get an SR20 of this year, since I've been on Oppo. There's something for everyone in here. Age, price, rarity, location, and quality of photo may vary, but all these cars have one thing in common: all of them made me want to run up and beg the owner for the keys from the second I laid eyes on them. It's a truly awesome collection of metal.

Lulz. I guess the BMW parking trait is inherited from earlier models.

BURN THE REST AND DRIVE THIS OVER THEIR STILL-SMOLDERING REMAINS TO MY HOUSE
Thank you.

That car belongs to one of my swim coaches. It's his baby, and everyone knows it, so when he parks like this at practice we let it slide.

Nice, quite an eclectic taste in cars!

Does he also swim in more than one lane? :3

It's probably my favorite. I'm keeping it.

I laughed harder than I should've there.

Life without variety would be too boring for me.

Saw one of these just the other day

They're quite rare (I'm told).

Yes supposedly.

Ew. Choose one color, please.
Also, black rims need to be glossy. These just look like they're caked in brake dust.
That said, I like the Gulf stripe used with different colors. I'd have done it in light grey or white, though.

There's a blue/orange gulf stripe GT further down

Ah, nice! I didn't look at the rest until now, but damn. You see a lot more awesomeness than I do. (Although, not 30 minutes ago I passed a Hi-Ace with Mexican plates and almost went into the curb since I was just staring at my mirror and soiling my pants. So there's that.)

I love the look of these. It's just understated enough to not be flashy, but it is so smooth.

You had quite the year. I don't know why but all the Jags seemed to stand out.

I love Jaguars. They have one of the smallest number of ugly production cars of any company, in my opinion. Basically, the Series 3 E-Type 2+2, and that's it.

I think you won Jalopnik's Big Year

Too bad they didn't do that this year.

Keep in mind, this is 365 days, including at least a dozen car shows and five or six states.

Oooh. These were really nice back in the day and still are.

True, true. I guess I have seen a few neat gems out there. I just usually don't have my phone out in time.

I keep my phone in the center console w/ the camera app open. you never know what gems will flash past.

I actually can't remember: Is that an LTD Country Squire?

One of my swim coaches drives a BMW. It's a 328i I think. The other coach drives a wrangler.

Sure is.

I've had so many coaches that drive Jeeps its not even funny.

Do you also realize that only 1500 Continental IIs rolled off the production line? To put it in perspective, there are more Ferrari F40's than Continental IIs.

I never realized how rare they were.
Here are more pictures. It was in great shape.

Here's the reason why they were so rare: Each one was hand built and as a result, cost $10,000 in 1956 dollars. From Wikipedia: "
The Mark II sold for around $10,000, [5] the equivalent of a new Rolls-Royce or two Cadillacs (at least until the $13,074 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham out-priced it in 1957). In spite of this, Ford estimated they still lost over a thousand dollars per car [6] on the 3,000 that were built.
About 1,300 were sold in the last quarter of 1955 after the car's October debut at the Paris Motor Show; another 1,300 or so in 1956; and 444 in 1957"
So yes, they are REALLY RARE. The ones with factory air conditioning are the most valuable. It was a $457 option (in 1956-57 dollars). At that price, you could buy a VW Beetle Deluxe.

So...the Lincoln or the Cadillac?
![]() 01/01/2015 at 18:23 |

They're very classy cars.

I'd have to go with the Cadillac as a stock cruiser, or the Lincoln if it had modern improvements, like a supercharged 460 and a blower.
