Kinja'd!!!

if it had arrived in Richmond a few hours earlier it probably would of been delivered today

although i'm surprised it went to Richmond instead of going straight to Arlington

too bad they don't ship on new years day though gotta wait till friday

And here I am, still waiting on FedEx/USPS to deliver something I ordered over a week ago. It arrived at my local post office yesterday, but I still have to wait 1-2 more days for reasons unknown.

The first truck available may have been on a straight through run to Richmond. Also, is there a UPS warehouse in Arlington? I'm in McLean and my stuff always comes out of Alexandria.

I asked a friend of mine who is an engineer for UPS why they "overshoot" like that sometimes and he said it has to do with what truck runs are available and what the geographic proximity is. If I'm understanding what he said right, they do everything they can to keep packages moving *somewhere*, so they would rather get the package on a truck to some hub that's kind of close to you rather than sit on it till they have a truck that's going specifically to your nearest warehouse. The other big hub in the area is Laurel, but somehow the UPS brain calculated that it was faster to ship all the way down to Richmond then back up, rather than wait and ship it to Laurel and then down.
