This is not because the car is bad but because of someone or something you associate with it. I have four cars on there. One which is kinda a shame. This list includes the Dodge Challenger (specifically the 392 Yellow Jacket), the C5 Corvette, the 67 Pontiac Firebird, and a lifted Silverado diesel. All because of this one kid. I had this talk with fellow Opponaut BlueMazda2 and his list includes the Mercedes E350 in white, the Rogue in grey, and the Mercedes GLK in black. So what are some of yours?

996 Porsche 911.

This was the current 911 when I really started getting into cars and I didn't like it. I got a lot of hate for not liking it, and by extension all 911's (even though I didn't know of any yet). I've since learned the errors of my ways, and there are several 911's in my dream car garage (located in my head); but I still can't shake the hate for the 996 series.

In fall 2008, I considered picking up an '05-07 Legacy 2.5GT manual wagon—because it was an awd turbo stick shift wagon.

I decided against it for 2 reasons:

1. My asshole boss drove an Outback and I didn't want to have a similar car to him.

2. I was renting a room in my friend's house and we kept the trash & recycling bins on my side of the garage. The car was possibly going to be slightly too long to fit in there with the trash cans and there wasn't anywhere else to put them.

But it was mostly reason #1.

I bought an '06 Mazdaspeed 6 instead, and he bought a Hyundai Azera when his Outback blew a head gasket.

Eagle Vision (I'm not even going to pull a pic off the net).

In my "previous life", my second ever girlfriend had one of these (well, it was her mom's). There was nothing wrong with her (other than the fact she didn't respect her own body), but she wasn't anywhere near my type and I forced myself to like her for at least a few months. In fact, she was so far from my type she almost repulsed me.

It was that relationship in which I learned that you just can't force love no matter how much convincing you try to give yourself.

But the real personal reason why is because I broke her heart when I broke up our relationship. She was a nice girl that didn't deserve it. I do hope she's found someone who truly loves her. <3 :)

Any GM product that is new, or costs more than 10k. At 10k it becomes less of a loss when it breaks and has to be fixed. Also their owners, especially if it has a Z71 badge. We've had one that hasn't had major mechanical problems, but it was still a pile of shit. The only one I enjoyed had it's transmission take a shit at 80k miles, and upon opening up, discovered it wasn't the first time. We have had better luck with Volvo's and Chrysler products.

My neighbors who I hate are big Lexus fans so I can't own one while they are in the neighborhood.

My inlaws got in a horrible car accident while in an Acura so that gets ruled out.

Volvo / Saab get a lot of love around here, but frankly everyone I knew who had a Swedish car in the 80's / 90's was a major douchebag / yuppie snaab. The image I have is Jerry Seinfeld the character (not the person / actor) or my highschool classmate who always seemed to have "just got back from Aspen". There is major intersection here with German/British car owners (of which I am a member), but I give them a pass because they ostensibly enjoy driving, and Swedish car owners mostly care about being safe, which indicates some level of narcissism.

-Chrysler PT Cruisers. Ex had one. I tried to talk her out of buying it, but she insisted, and I was constantly fixing it. As it had that "little girl's fingernail polish purple" paint job, it gained the nickname from my coworkers the "Purple Paycheck Eater" since I had it in the shop weekly.
-Any Mustang from '72 to SN95. Always run into the douchenozzles that own these. The later ones, and ones from the '60's, not so much.
-Gen 5 Camaro. I love it's real life Hot Wheels looks, but hate its lack of visibility and interior space. One of my former coworkers had 3 of them. First a '10, traded that for a Transformers 3 Bumblebee edition, traded that for a ZL1. Immediately asked the parts manager if they made snow tires in his size.
-Any hybrid save for a first gen Honda Insight. ALL OF THEIR OWNERS that I've met are self-righteous, yet refuse to buy the low rolling resistance tires, change their air filters at all or use the recommended weight of oil.

Mercedes Benz and VW for me. Growing up in lower middle class neighborhood in a very poor state MBs were always a "rich asshole" car and even being older and more affluent I cannot shake that association . Plus the local MB/AMG club doesn't help matters from my dealings with them when I help run local car shows/trackdays ETC

. VW because my mom had a very unreliable Aircooled bug when I was a kid and having memories of being stranded EVERYWHERE because of it. Also a family friend who had a late model Golf just out of OEM warranty that was always in the shop for something crazy expensive.

Old Mopar Muscle cars. Only trilobites drive them and just talk about "max wedge this HEMI that" I helped run a Mopar Muscle day at the drag strip in which everyone was stuck in the '70s where EFI was a scary new and turbos were cheating some how.

VW Touareg - the most fantastically unreliable car I've ever seen come out of VW. Relatives and family friends had them, with problems ranging from weekly failing air suspension, to snapped driveshafts.

Nissan 350Z - personally, I think it's a bit of an ugly thing, and the engine noise really irritates me.

Mazda MX-5 - I prefer an MG TF...

Ferrari F430 Spyder - I don't think it's particularly attractive and I once encountered a massive douchebro owner who went unbelievably defensive when I remarked he had flat tyre due to his poor parking (rammed the sidewall into the pavement with the rest of the car on the kerb). I was tempted to call the cops on him because he then drove away with two passengers inside - reckless and possibly dangerous driving.

There are a lot of cars where I have unexplainable preferences, for example Ferrari over Lamborghini, Honda over Toyota, but I chalk that up to brand perception more than anything else.

My one irrational hatred is Lexus. And it's not all of them, I like the older IS and SC, and the LF-A, but I simply cannot stand the ES and RX series. They offend my senses as the ultimate examples of luxury badge engineering. My aunt had an ES as a company lease years ago, and she always seemed to try and upsell everyone that it "was as good as a Mercedes E Class." Nope, it was a Camary you paid too much money for. I reserve the as good as status for an up and comer like the Hyundai Equus, not a lame duck hack job by the world's number 1 selling auto manufacturer, especially not when they have so many other solid cars in their portfolio (see IS, RL, etc.)

As for the RX, my wife has an RX330 and I absolutely can't stand it. It has no redeeming qualities as an automobile in my opinion. It might as well be a Yugo with leather, and even that would be better if only for the Jalop cred I'd get for being that weirdo in the Yugo with leather. The only reason we still have it is because it came with the wife, and it's paid off. In addition to the awful badge engineering, everything feels wholly inadequate on it, probably because it's Camry someone paid too much for AND has several hundred extra pounds tacked on, but no upgrades in power or braking to compensate for the added inertia. It also really irks me that my mother-in-law is on her 4th one - she gave the first to my sister-in-law, the second to my wife, and third to her niece. She's a very nice and generous lady, just not very car savvy. She's in a position where she could drive almost anything in the world she wanted. She could have had 4 completely different, fun, exciting cars to explore. And instead she settled for a Lexus RX. Four times.

Came here to post this car. A kid I knew in Middle School was the son of this guy who gave his wife the Saab 9-3 and got a 996. He wasn't necessarily a bad guy but seeing him with cell phone headset and wrap-around oakleys circa 2001 give me the thumbs-up after baseball practice just sealed for me the kind of guy who drove a Porsche. My dad had a Civic Si at the time and the contrast in my eyes was pretty marked.

Mercedes, BMW, Range Rover, Porsche, and Audi being the biggest offenders. I also encountered one douchebag in a Jaguar F-Type so that's ruined it for me. But the biggest one I absolutely will not drive because of personal reasons, is any form of hybrid. Prius, Insight, Leaf, Tesla, i3, you name it, everywhere I see them they're always driven by smug, pretentious, "Eco-Friendly" assmunchers who think they're better than everyone else because "My car has a hybrid badge on it/ runs on batteries, so I'm saving the planet while you're killing it with your gas guzzlers." Every car ever made in England, it makes me sad since some were/are absolutely a joy to look at. But then they leave you on the side of the road, wishing you had never considered an English car. Sometimes they do the right thing and catch fire.

Also the Mazda 3 as my ex owned one, and well, that doesn't bring back happy memories. Great car, terrible wife.

Prius, because they remain the ugliest car every made and inexplicably sell very well. This in turn speaks volumes about society today.. hmm.. upon further review I'd rather own an English car than a Prius.

I think I'm going to make a post about this car actually.

It's only a few hundred pounds heavier than a Dodge SRT-4 and with 30-40 more HP with no turbo lag, and larger, better tires. (225 section vs 205s on the SRT-4)

Any 911.

They are great cars, and many are still available with manuals, but I can't shake the idea that they are the type of car most people buy just because they achieve a certain level of success to show that they have achieved that level of success rather than because they are great cars. And because of the people I work with at my level, over half have some variety of 911.

Every once in a while I still look on eBay to see if there is something that would be interesting to me, and today this popped up:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Porsche-91…

But for the money there are a lot of equally interesting cars that are more unique.

Jeep Cherokees. When I was in high school the cool car to have was a Jeep Cherokee. For some people you weren't worth talking to if you didn't have one. The worst were the people with the Grand Cherokees. Despite the fact their cars were always broken they still managed to look down upon others. I don't hate the trucks but I won't ever own one.

Civics. I've mentioned before on here how I'm a magnet for people pulling out in front of me and cutting me off. In high school especially, it was a civic 8/10 times.

I was starting to like VW again because of people on oppo but a certain person I run into on occasion makes a point to talk crap about my car(s) and how great VWs are to the point where I hate them.

All 4th gen f-bodies, I have a friend who owns a 96 Formula and I helped him take the engine out and put it back in to rebuild it (only for it to seize up). I love the Lt1/Ls1 4th gen in terms of looks and performance but that engine bay nightmare scared me away from ever owning one. I'd rather put work into a 3rd gen hardtop than a 4th gen hardtop (which are impossibly rare in a V8-manual combo).

The 458 is already a loud car so considering the 458 Speciale breaks many track's DB limit you can guess how loud it is. So considering owners have full experience of this, I think it either insanely dumb/evil to rev the engine out when a three year old girl is running towards "the cool red car" in a seriously dumb attempt to stop her potentially touching your precious Ferrari (My sister's car for some reason is the favourite target for birds doing their business as a result my sister has drilled into her kids not to touch cars). Seriously if you make a child cry, just apologise don't sneer and then check the car over.

Nah, I get a 650S Spider instead.

Mustang. My first car I bought was a 02 Camaro Z28. I like the way they look now, and sound, and all that, but nope. Can't ever buy one. Would be sacrilege.

Understood, that is kind of an asshole move on the 458 Speciale owners part.

That is why I want to own a Ferrari one day, so I can be the anti-Ferraristi.

Any modern Toyota. I couldn't force myself into owning a car from company that does nothing more than rebody cars mechanically identical to their 2007 counterparts.

Any modern Nissan. Their cars are just... Ugly. And CVT.

Mustang. Too many douchebros.

STI. Same reason as mustangs.

VAG cars. Too unreliable, which makes it hard to justify their nice interiors and engines. And semi-bland styling.

Mercedes of any age. Old person vibe and none of their cars look good to me stylistically.

Any K-car variant. Mostly because they are bloody awful.

A 1975 Suburban with a 454. I had one and loved it more than any other vehicle I've owned. Getting another would be like remarrying after a spouse passed. I couldn't do that. Of the other dozen or so cars I've owned I would buy any of them again. Except the Dodge Spirit.

Vauxhall Corsa for me. Hateful little car that is almost exclusively appallingly driven. I couldn't face ever driving one of the little shit boxes.

Nissan micra (March) too, because they are nasty little cars. Bulletproof tools, but I just hate them.

Mercedes C and E-Class. Non-AMGs.

BMW 3 and 5-series. Non-Ms.

I'm Cantonese, so I'm from Hong Kong, and I'm technically Chinese, but Cantonese people like to distance ourselves from Mainland Chinese people, who in California may probably account for 90% of all the purchases of those cars listed up there. I WILL NEVER BUY THEM.

I really dont see myself owning anything from Hyundai or Kia. Growing up, these cars were cheaper than cheap and beigiest shade of beige. They can make all the Equuses and K900's they want, they still haven't made anything I'd ever consider buying.

Of course, if you told me ten years ago that is have a Honda and a Toyota in my driveway I would have sworn off driving forever. Who knows what then next decade will bring.

Most of them will take you to their suburban homes, offer you a seat in their dad's overstuffed home theater recliner, then start a marathon of every Fast and Furious picture and afterward ask if you'd like to worship at the altar of Paul Walker.

No? How about a lanyard... would you like a souvenir lanyard? Cargo shorts? Can I highlight the tips of your... wait a second, you don't have spiky hair?

the weirdest thing about the maxima (at least the newer ones) is how big of a turning radius it has. I have had to park one a few times and it was worse than many huge trucks and old boats that I have dealt with. That and the "4 door sports car" advertisement.

Anything really heavy. I will always live by the philosophy of "simplify and add lightness". HP numbers mean nothing without considering the weight of the vehicle.

The pretty suprising. I'd think it would be better than the average midsize.

I owned a 95 Explorer and a 04 Sport Trac. The 95 wasn;t too bad but the Sport Trac had its frame stretched like 19 inches to accommodate the cab and the bed which made it horrible. I had to 3 point everything. Then I get the WRX and i almost hit a post because it turned so unexpectedly quick.
