Looking for a good, manual, cheap Saab from a dealer who will !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! in a sale and instead I found a Frankenstein.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

A '10 Fusion with 6 to row. (!) Is this stock? Why does it not have a V8? And why is that non-existent V8 6-spd manual Fusion not constantly being compared to a Hemi Charger or Chevy SS by Motortrend and the like? What is life?

Yeah, they used to have a manual option.

As to why it doesn't have a V8, that's because FWD with a V8 really sucks as does the whole packaging issues of putting a V8 into an old Mazda mid-sized platform.

If I am not mistaken the manuel was only available on a bare bone 4 banger model.

¡Learning! It's just a weird beast. Well, we won't call it a beast. It's a very weird thing. A thing that nobody want(s)(ed).

Who did Ford make this car for? Is there actually someone who wants a 4cyl FWD full sized sedan with a manual transmission....

Beats me. I think their idea was to put a manual in there to make the 4 banger less gutless yet good on gas. The 3 liter V6 was gutless so I can't imagine how lame the 4 banger was.

The only point of this vehicle was for Ford to advertise a lower starting MSRP for the entire Fusion range.

I also hate the Ford 6spd. My mom had a GT for a while and I couldn't stand shifting it. The throws in my E46 feel like a mile compared to the ford.

Would that be worth at the engineering costs of fitting this car with a manual, and having to produce at least a few hundred?

I'm pretty sure it was the only Fusion that could be had for sub $20k, so they advertised $19k as the MSRP on the web, TV, and in magazines thanks to this model, given how much they were spending on the multimedia itself it was probably worth it.

Are there actually people here arguing that there's no reason for the manual trans version to exist? That's stupid, and it only fuels the wrong team in the Save the Manuals fight.

Buy why is it stupid, jdrgoat. Is it more stupid than a 6-speed manual on a FWD 4 cylinder full size sedan?

Wait, what are you asking? Are you also saying that a manual on a Fusion is stupid?

In this case, yes. That is what I am saying. Explicitly so.

Explain yourself. All midsize cars used to have a manual available, save for some luxury brands and whatnot. Just because it's less efficient than an automatic is these days, does that mean that no one wants to have more fun than an automatic can ever provide?

My point of view makes more sense from the used car market point of view, I suppose.

Perhaps I feel the way I do because I've thrown shift with a knob identical to the Fusion's with a V8 under the hood, and I just don't think I could manage any enjoyment out of a 4 cylinder car with the power in the front and a whole lot of weight behind that. My 'rents Mazda 3 is a fun FWD manual 4cyl, so perhaps I'm misguided.

I forgot that Ford used the same knob in the Mustang. It won't provide anything like the fun that the Mustang can, but it will inevitably be more fun than a Fusion with an automatic. It might never be fast, but on a very lightly trafficked back road it could still be entertaining. I really don't think the automatic car could be so entertaining.

So what is the BHP and torque from this engine? And could I (who HATES engines swaps and modifications in general) put a 3rd gen SHO V8 in it (235 BHP) and just drive it?

You can still get the Fusion with a manual, but only with the 1.6 EB. Since I started working for Ford in August, I've only ever seen one.

I didn't get to drive it, no. I would definitely drive it. I love the new Fusions. Although if I were getting a Fusion, I'd rather get a bigger engine, which would mean no manual.
