Worth noting she has owned nothing but SBCs, might be the most American person I know.

3 Camaros and 2 Silverado. She has always bought them 1-2 years old and drives them for around a decade. Cant argue with that. Sidenote: thats my older brother, not me.

Aaannndd just because I was on her FB I saw this photo again. Grandma with my car when I first got it. Without a doubt the most leisurely around-the-block the Crossfire has been on.

Makes you wonder how poorly they sold and/or if they all rusted away. Because you never see any around.

There's one in my town that a flower shop owns. Bright blue. One reason you see so few is that they were only sold for like two years - chicken tax loophole.

I had no idea they were sold for such short of a time. Damn chicken tax ruining things!

IIRC, the loophole allowed Chevy to import the original Isuzu as a chassis cab, calling it an "unfinished vehicle" and they got to treat it as US manufacture when they slapped the bed on... until the import of chassis cabs also was expressly covered under a chicken tax extension. I think the loophole for chassis cabs was also when a bunch of larger Isuzus and the like sneaked in - a friend of my dad's has a chassis cab cabover -> flatbed with toolboxes Isuzu from around that time that has been a primary work truck for ages.

They rusted. My dad had one for 2 years, and spent the entire time dealing with corrosion problems. First GM repainted the tailgate under warranty, then they replaced the tailgate under warranty, then they replaced the rear bumper, then the wheel arches all started rusting through just out of warranty. He thinks it had to have been rusting under the paint before it even arrived on the dealer lot and the bubbles just hadn't poked through yet.

Isuzu just used really cheap scrap steel back then, and with zero rust proofing of any kind.

Well if a company was going to use shitty metal and not rust proof, that company would be 70's Isuzu.

99% sure the restoration cost of a LUV truck will exceed whatever the market price is for one in perfect condition.

Ya know, they keep telling me the same thing about my Saab. Funny thing is I couldn't give less of a shit, and I doubt the LUV owner does either. Sometimes it's a labor of love, not of returns

Thats a good point. Sometimes you just want it and that makes it well worth the money.
