Kinja'd!!!

Something tells me instead of integrating the remote start on the Fusion into the switchblade key, we'll be getting this ugly one-button key fob for it as well as the normal key.

Which makes zero sense since it looks like there's a place on the switchblade for a remote start button.

Kinja'd!!!

I could be wrong, but I have yet to find a picture of a key for a a non-push button start Fusion that has remote start built in.

Well, if it's something like the Ford Mustang remote start, you'll get this hideous fob:

That one might be even worse. That looks like they're recycling old Taurus/Sable fobs.

And what's wrong with recycling old fobs?

Do you really want a replacement to cost $500?

Is your mom going to get the fusion?

Yeah that's the add-on fob that came on our company Expedition, too. Hideous is right, especially when GM figured out how to integrate the function way back on my 2007 Z71 Suburban. Get with it, Ford.

yup unless you got the factory installed remote start, you get the extra fob. At least that's how my dealership did it. they could get you whole new keys, ones with the button built in, but it cost a lot more.

Oh well, I don't have to carry it around. I don't understand why we had it installed to begin with, my mom hardly ever uses it on the Vue.

And now you will know the joys of pretending to be James Bond with a switchblade key.

If it's a factory remote start, as in the remote start is listed on your window sticker, you're in luck. If it's a dealer add on...I make no promises.

That's the key to a model with push-button-start. Ours is a dealer add-on, but it's a Ford system, so I haven't a clue.

I can virtually guarantee that it will be a new fob. They don't make a Fusion compatible key with RMST unless it's a push-button vehicle to begin with.

It's a strange omission. They make my Taurus key (the 4 button in the Mustang setup above) in a four and five key combination, the difference being, of course, the RMST button.

Probably going to be an extra remote fob. My one beef with the CX-5 that we got, is the remote start. It's a giant extra fob, and you only get one, and it doesn't work worth a damn. It's a Mazda system too, and they only way they put remote start on Mazda's, is with that add on system. It's not integrated into any of them. Which is stupid!

Hmm. I've seen them where you hold down the lock and unlock buttons and there's no extra fob involved. I'd hate to have one of those little one-button fobs, they're dorky...but remote start is nice, so I'd probably live with it.

Mazda and Ford should really work on that... Then again, at least we had the option of getting one installed, the $35,000 Impala we were looking at didn't have it and we couldn't have one put on, apparently.

GM's need to be ordered from the factory, otherwise you have to go aftermarket. However, if you get one with the factory GM remote start, they are actually integrated better than any other system that I've seen, and they work really well. It's one of the very few things I miss about that damn lemon of a Malibu.

I always found it interesting on the Vue how you could only run it twice for 10 minutes until you had to put the key in and start it again to reset it. But you could start that damn thing from a mile away it seemed. We had an issue once where the hood latch sensor went wonky and disabled the remote start, which was weird.

The person that told you that lied for any number of reasons. If you really want remote start you can go to a good car audio shop and have them rig it up.

Malibu was the same way, but I always figured if you need to run it more than twice, you're just wasting gas anyways.
