I love those. Bill Buckle in Australia made something similar called the Mini Monaco.

Yeah, the fastback works better without the tail. Here's the other angle. I think they only built like 4 of them, unfortunately.

I think that may have been what they had in mind with the new coupe, but, IMHO, they failed to capture the cool quirkiness that this one had. The new one just comes across to me as...pointless.

I'm all about impracticality, I drive a Fiat 500 after all. That thing, however just has no reason to exist.
