(Kinja won't let me have a title. It should be something about what automotive gifts you've given/received. Or a coffee table book review.)
Merry Christmas, opponauts! As far as automotive gifts go, I have received some nice detailing stuff, tools, and a Corvette coffee table book. But not just any Corvette coffee table book, but one published in 1985! My exact car is considered the cutting edge of sports car technology. With its fancy port injection setup and all. And it's written by a British guy and has tons of great publicity shots from the various eras of Corvette. Whether celebrating our fantastic commercialistic culture or a religious phenomenon, have a good time.
"The eighties and beyond." 1985 seems like it'll be so amazing. I now have enough liquidity to put my car in reliable mechanical order for years to come, although I'll just be keeping up with the car's self-destructive tendencies for the time being.

The 80s were the absolute best. 220hp was a shit ton, all cars were angular, everything had a leather wrapped steering wheel (a highly underrated cost cutting measure by manufacturers today, leather wrapped steering wheels are what separates us from the monkeys), and Japanese cars had names as long as a Cadillac's wheelbase. It was a simpler time, it was a better time.

And Cadillacs were still Cadillacs!
I agree. I didn't live through the 80s, but everyone I know who did loved that decade. 230hp is enough for me—any more and I'd never get to put my foot down! Leather wrapped steering wheel>no steering wheel>plastic wheel (what you get on a $35,000+ BMW)
Now everyone but CM get off my damn lawn.

I'm a product of the 80s anyway, born in '84. But it seems like the cars you grow up with are the ones you develop a preference for, so to me 80s cars are what cars look like. It makes me sad that you see so few of them on the road today, probably since they were made of paper mâché (thank God my iPhone just added the accents on that for me) and I live in Rhode Island, where the roads are made of salt.

So much basically brown!
Somehow the altezza lights on the E series van makes this picture depressing.
