So we got an odd trade in the form of a 3200 mile Macan Turbo today, so I decided to take it to get lunch. I came away rather impressed. I haven't really driven any new Porsches, but the interior was quite nice, the ride was quiet and composed, and the engine was smooth and plenty powerful. I was also impressed with the PDK. It was a little clunky in Sport and Sport+ at lower speeds, but worked better than any Dual-Clutch I've experience at parking lot speeds. The only thing that really bugged me about the car was the insane amount of buttons. It's seriously overwhelming until you realize you'll never touch most of them, at which point you wonder why they wasted so much space. No SR-20 cause it was pouring and I didn't feel like getting my phone soaked, but I can grab a pic Friday by request!

Wow. A 3200 mile trade in ANYTHING is definitely out there. Much less a brand freakin new Macan.

Guess the previous owner just got bored and had too much money.

I saw one on the road. It gives the impression of being big without actually being much taller than a Mercedes wagon or the like. The styling is also a nice mix of both bold and subdued. Overall, I r8 8/8, m8.

I saw a Macan Turbo the other day. It seemed excessive.

interesting

Maybe he didn't like it after using it in the real world for a few months

PDK is the best DCT. Feels as smooth as a slush box in regular mode.

I saw one as well, headed down 7th Avenue the other day. Who trades this in at this point? You knew what you were getting - an astonishingly overpriced barely capable off-roader that will smoke pretty much everything else off the line. Do you know what they gave for the trade-in? This thing had to cost north of 100K new.

I don't really want to give away too much about the person or the car, but the car cost 86k new.

Just curious what they traded it for?

A nicely equipped GLA250. Odd one, yes, but when you can afford it, might as well get what you want at the time, right?

Possibly, but shoot.. if you put down so much money on something, you should probably be 100% on the purchase. Now, if you have the time/resources/funds then by all means have at it!

Personally, I just cant see myself ever doing that in any situation where large amounts of money/finances are involved.

True. But it can be hard to be 100% sure from test drives, and the dealership generally won't let you put a lot of miles on a car during a test drive. I'm the same as you though, I wouldn't want to take the sales tax and depreciation hit. I would stick with the car for at least a few years even if there were things about it that bothered me.

No problem - don't want you risking your job. I recall a post here a few days ago that showed a Macan Turbo (new) north of 100K - my c0mment was that the thing didn't even have ceramic brakes! If I'm shelling out that sort of money, I want modcons, I want safety. And fucking ceramic brakes.

You'd have to try pretty hard to get it over 100k realistically. All the must haves like the entertainment system and Sport Chrono and such bring it to 90ish. Things like custom door sills and the silly yellow paint are the things that take it that high. And ceramic brakes are a genuinely terrifying upgrade for a daily driver. I've heard the Mercedes ones cost 10k or more to replace. Even rich people know better than that. Most got rich cause they were smart with their money, so even when they can afford it, they're careful about how it's spent.

hmm... that sounds like a bad trade to me.

At this point in my life, if I ever have to buy a car again, it's all about safety. Give me as many airbags as can be stuffed into it, ceramic brakes that haul it down in record time, and a cage that protects me and the spouse. Probably a Volvo.

From what I understand, ceramic brakes are more beneficial when it comes to high temperatures, like when used on a race track. Don't the brakes need to be warm to be fully functional, or at least more so than traditional brakes?

That must be nice! I drove a Macan S and was more than impressed. I can't imagine what Macan Turbo can do.

Does that customer at least get some cash back? There is no way GLA250 's price touch Macan Turbo.
