Kinja'd!!!

Someone in the family just got bought a 2008 Twingo (not an RS like the one above I just liked that photo) and within two weeks wrote it off in a ditch. Fully paid for by parents of course. I have to say, people who get spoiled all of their lives are generally worse at looking after stuff (they've gotten everything they wanted for years now).

They blamed the road for being "greasy"... okay. Car was loaded with friends so I'm going to say driving like an idjit because of the distraction of having a car full of people and no common sense.

People like this are why my insurance is too damn high.

Kinja'd!!!

I would've put up the photo of it sat in the ditch after the incident but I'd rather the family didn't find this post on GIS or the like...

My step brother went through at least 4 or 5 cars until his mom/grandma couldn't afford to buy him another. He then went to my stepdad for one after being MIA for over a year. When he said no step bro said a bunch of nasty stuff and didn't call again until Christmas looking for money and gifts

What a complete arse. At least this person is upset about the loss of their car somewhat and realises what an issue it is.

That's good. He always had his mom/grandma give him whatever he wanted. No concept of $ or appreciation for things.

Was it insured fully-comp, or just TPFF?

That's a shame. There's nothing wrong with treating your kids, as long as they learn the value of it. My girlfriend got her car paid for, for example, but on the understanding that she runs any errand they ask her to in it without complaint and a few other conditions.

I have no idea but either way there's going to be a huge repair/ new car bill, or a huge jump in insurance cost if they claim.

Oh, yeah—I just looked up how much 2008 Twingos are worth online, and honestly, I'd probably leave the insurance companies out of it—a £2500 write-off'd make any young driver almost uninsurable. It'd be better to just replace it with something cheaper, or turf the idiot back onto the bus for a few years.

I'd say a 106'd make for a good replacement, but if they managed to ditch a modern Twingo, I wouldn't like to see what they might do in an old French supermini with no ABS, a loose bum, and all the crash protection of a pile of leaves.

I dont know what they'll end up doing to be honest, in the photo it looks repairable so maybe they'll have it fixed. For the sake of other road users though it might be better to get her a bus pass...

I don't think something with less crash protection will scare her at all, it'll just make the next crash worse.

I'd suggest an advanced driving course or two, but whether there'd be any benefit depends entirely on whether the individual in question's willing to put the effort in.

I think her issues are concentration and common sense, not driving skill. She simply wasnt paying attention to her speed and the road surface, then ended up paying for it.
