So here's my problem. I got the Civic registered on Monday, and I've been going through it, getting all my stuff in there, cleaning it up, all that good stuff.

There was the "special edition" lettering on the front bumper. I started from the right side, saw that at one point I had "special ed", laughed, considered leaving it. I didn't leave it.

My problem today, however, is with the glass.

As you have to squint to see, my car was apparently owned by royalty. Princess Liliana Lucia. I assume she's a descendent of some Spanish royalty...or at least of Paco de Lucia, the King of Flamenco Guitar. Anyway.

In addition to that, Princess Liliana had a cat and a child. I can tell because of the outline of her stick figure family that appears on my back window when it rains.

I'm assuming that the problem is with the factory tint of the window, and I'm basically fucked until it evens out by being in the sun. Cleaning the window or using Goo Gone does nothing. I do find it odd that you can only see it when the window is wet though.

Any ideas?

Use Isopropyl alcohol or (very carefully) lacquer thinner and clean the whole window.

You could try claying your glass, just as you would do your paint.

Replace the glass? If you can find it in a salvage yard and figure out how to do it yourself I would think that it would be pretty cheap

Call junkyards and ask if they have complete glass, or even a complete door. I can tell you with certainty, that's not going to buff out.

If there's an auto glass place by you, I would stop in there and ask them if it could be replaced, or what they suggest to do. There are a few places by me that are actually very cheap (as far as automotive glass is considered) that can certainly help you out.

Probably the most realistic thing to do, honestly. I'll just tuck it back.

What you need for residue like that is an acid glass cleaner, like the one I linked above. There are also tutorials for cleaning your glass with muriatic acid (read: hydrochloric acid), but that is way more likely to a) injure you and b) damage other surfaces on your car.

If it's only visible when wet, my guess is that it's some residue that's bonded to the glass, not damage to the glass itself. And if an acid cleaner doesn't work, they do wonders on shower doors too.

Yup, was going to suggest something like this. I used the Detailer's Pro version of that: http://amzn.com/B0009W3PDS

and it worked great for getting rid of residues that I thought might be permanently etched into the glass.
