I love listening to all the people write off the Mustang in the showroom because it's a V6. How much more horsepower than 305 does the average guy really need?

People have been taught by marketing and just our normal culture to want the most they can get. I occasionally find myself wanting the bigger engine for my car. Not that it needs it. I just want more zoom zoom because it exists.

402, specifically.
The hate isn't really directed to the pitiful :) power output, it's the fact that there is a v6 in a Mustang.

They can put a 4 cylinder in it if it makes good power for all I care.
Oh wait, they did.

It's just the need to have the best version of everything. There was someone I knew who bought a Kia hatchback even though he preferred the equivalent Civic, simply because he couldnt afford the Civic Type R and didnt want a car unless he had the top of the range.

Cylinder count is directly related to penis length.

What's really funny is that just five years ago, the Mustang GT made 300hp and was considered plenty powerful.

because there's a v8 option, so the 6 is looked at as lesser and peasantly. Meanwhile if the 6 was the biggest engine offered it would be the go to as the 8 is now.
If there were a v8 as the small engine and a v10 as the big boy the 8 would be scauffed at because duh- v10

Not sure about that. As long as it wasn't the base engine, I'd still take the V8. V8 is just right.

When I was in high school, a 300HP Mustang was drool-worthy. Today, it's an economy car.
What a world.

The point is, that was a V8. That is what they are looking for, V8. Turn the lineup around, make the mid-range engine a low-powered V8 and the top engine a powerful V6, Almost nobody would buy the top model because the V8 is considered "proper" and it would be cheaper. The V6 exists exclusively as a budget version, regardless of the power it produces.

I assume this goes back to when the V6 Mustang was thought of as the secretary's car. 305 is plenty of get up and go though. The LS1 4th Gen Camaros had 310 HP and they were wildly popular and considered quite fast back then. To get nearly the same output out of the V6, with better fuel economy? Sign me up.

Exactly. I wouldn't own this particular Mustang, but not because of the engine. I've driven this exact car home a night or two, and it has plenty of power.

I actually prefer the turbo 4 in the Mustang than the V6. It comes down to the illusion of pedigree. The V8 and performance defines the Mustang, and while the V6 delivers the performance, "V6" seems to say "minivan and boring sedan upgrade, budget everything else", despite having been in Mustangs since forever. "Turbo 4" delivers performance and the illusion of pedigree, since of course "turbo" always means "fast".
It just seems more right.

I haven't gotten to drive the 4 yet, or any of the '15s. We had one '15 and it sold 3 days after it got here.

If it's as good as the 2.0T in the Fusion, it's got my support, even though I don't really like Ford.

I have a Ford 2.oT, but not in a Fusion.
