They are supercars only for the fact they can't compete with say a P1 McLaren which is a hyper car.

Gigacar. They're more car than the Koenigsegg One: the first megacar.

It's like squares and rectangles - hypercar (to the extent that's even a real thing) is a subset of supercars. So they are certainly supercars.

I wouldn't say the F40 and F50 are twins... Maybe father/son if you want to think of it from a human-type relationship standpoint. And they're supercars for sure, I would say "hypercars" are only the newest generation that's beginning now.

A supercar is any high-performing sports car pre-horsepower wars.
Post Horsepower wars:
Supercar - Car that is all-around performing with no expense spared and no compromise, for the best overall driving experience. I.e., 458, Aventador, MP4-C, Bugatti Veyron, Enzo, Ford GT, Nissan GT-R
Hypercar - Car that is technologically extreme with heavy compromises in comfort, cost, or reliability, but beyond the limits of what other cars can do, and is likely dangerous in the hands of average owners. I.e., Agera R, P1, LaFerrari, 918
Cars that WOULD have been Hypercars in their time, if the term was around before the horsepower wars: F40, F50, McLaren F1, Porsche 959, Carrera GT
Cars that would still be supercars even if the term was around: Miura, Countach, Porsche 935 Turbo,
