Maybe that's how Ford can make the 'Stang popular in Europe.

If they want a car to be successful in 'Yurup it needs a Diesel engine. Lexus learned that. Cadillac should have learned that by now.

Not necessarily. You need that Diesel for high volume sellers and for the classic company car, but the Mustang could do very well with gas engines only. People buy quite a few Golf GTIs and Rs and Mini Cooper S and Audi TTs with petrol turbo engines.

As a rabid Mustang fan I love it. Finally a Mustang that you can put stuff in the back for everyday life and on the weekends have enough room for a spare set of wheels with Drag slicks, some tools, a ice chest for a weekend of 1/4 mile fun. I loved the fox hatches for being so useable with that hatch.

I think it would look better as a wagon. The front end is too long-looking for a shooting brake

The same guy did a shooting break render of the Charger Hellcat. I prefer that one.

Not enough "break" for me, but I like where this is going.

eeeew... the rear end looks too Gremlin; nothing good should remind me of a Gremlin.

As well as the Camaro has done with petrol engines only in the past few years? Oh wait...

Because the Camaro received no attention PR wise, because it didn't have a small turbo.

The small turbo engine probably won't help massively. When le Mustang arrives in the old world, it'll go straight against the 4-series and A5. 60% of 4-series and A5s sold in europe are diesels, mostly the 2.0 liter ones with ~ 180hp. Will a Mustang with a 300hp petrol engine be successful in comparison? Doubt it. It could do fairly well against the top of the range 4-series and A5, but these only make up a comparatively small margin of the overall sales figures. Let's face it, fuel in 'yurup is expensive, diesels get good MPG and the fuel is relatively cheap, which is why diesels sell so well over here. I'd say the Mustang will stay a niche product in europe. I may be completely wrong and we may drown in Mustangs, but ultimately we have to wait until next year to be 100% sure.

Oh, it will be a niche product for sure, and my guess is that it's being imported to just take over the business that is going to grey market dealers and to polish up the rather boring Ford image (Like the 'Stang? Well how about that Mondeo Wagon?).
And I don't see it going against the 4-series and A5s. It's somewhere in between the GTI and the 6-cylinder 4 series. Also, A5s and 4-series are super popular company cars in Germany for example, so no wonder people buy them with diesel engines. Anyone I know who bought something for fun though opted for the two liter petrol TT.

I don't think Ford's image over here needs polishing, since they have established a solid reputation for cars that are overall very good allrounders, if a bit chinese looking at times. And given how similar the 4-series and Mustang are, a comparison between the two seems adequate. Did I mention that even those hatchback based semi-sports cars like the TT are increasingly bought with diesel engines?
