Only now, I just discovered this thing. I'm filing this away to my Group-S folder. A three-rotor from the 757 LeMans car, 450hp, AWD, completely wonderful and would have been totally destroyed by the Audi Quattro Group-S 1,000hp ball of fire.

Yup. Audi would have won hands down. It would have had an engine not possibly better than the Audi. Imagine the noise of a 5 cylinder Audi Rally car vs. the 787b LeMans car......

Nope, all cars would have been limited to 300 hp.

Perhaps everyone at 300, Audi would still have had the advantage of torque from more displacement. Their car was designed for group B to begin with and wound up pointed at group-S in the end.

Lancia was already kicking their asses during that point of group B and then continued to in group A, I think that they would have had the advantage of having the lighter car and having designed 2 generations of cars for group S before it was going to start.

The article i read said their first and only test of the first mid-engined car (looked like a regular E2 with a top scoop) had the equal performance of the E2 right out of the box, so with some minor tuning would have lept way forward in performance. We could play the what-if game. but i'm sure they would have been up front if not leading if this thing was given a go-ahead in stead of the political destruction they saw.
