Kinja'd!!!

I've just about had it with my piece of shit MacBook Pro. I've been having problem after problem after grueling fucking problem with it. The USB ports decide when they want to work, the wifi is sporadic at best, and the thing fucking crashes if I rest my elbow on it or slap it.

!!! UNKNOWN HEADER TYPE (MULTI-LINE BREAK?) !!!

YES I HAVE APPLECARE BUT I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO GET APPLECARE BECAUSE THE THING WILL BE PRETTY GOSH DARN FUCKING RELIABLE, NO?

Tim Cook is a moron. We need a sadistic bastard like Jobs back in the chair. Without Jobs, you ain't got my money you Cupertino fucks.

This is exactly why I'm going Android and Windows.

OH, IT'S ONLY BEEN SIX MONTHS SINCE I GOT IT.

If you don't mind updating your hardware every few months, there can be a very strong case for a cheap $500 laptop.

I have a dislike of Apple as a brand, but Steve Jobs was an asshole of the first degree and did everything he could to keep factory working conditions from the public's view as he overcharged more and more for a crappy product and "wholesome" brand. I enjoy my Asus laptop, which is virus and maintenance free (along with having cost $900 three years ago having outperforming the top iMac at the time), but am on my third iPhone 4 in two years (now a 4S).

I've been considering dual-booting Ubuntu on my PC, but there's a huge lack of software available for it. I hear Windows 10 will be pretty good though.

Wow I'm pretty surprised. Mine has been rock solid and hasn't given me a problem, knock on wood. I seriously treat it pretty bad too. 15 inch retina btw.

I've noticed a lot more software issues since Jobs passed.

Jobs was an asshole, but he was a competent asshole. Cook is a moron who doesn't know how to run a successful technology company and focuses on dumbing down the entire brand so he can focus it on the upcoming demographic of techno-savvy teenage hipsters who only drink cage-free farm fresh Starbucks and wear tattered Converse.

I know that feel. In 2004 we got a tower PC that was running strong up until 2011 when it suffered a hard drive failure. Man that thing was my ultimate SimCity 4 machine.

I've yet to join the iphone circle jerk. I would just give up on apple if I were you. Most of their stuff is overrated. I enjoy my macbook, but then again I expect that for $3,000.

I've had Apple computers since the 90s - my experience has been that you usually get 4 years out of them (2 Mac Minis, a few G5s or whatever they were, numerous others). GF has a couple MacBooks (works for a film school, so all they use is Mac) and they've been reliable, if a bit slow after a few years. At six months, it should still be under warranty. Make them replace it.

I am. I already built an imcredible PC for the price of a base iMac and when my MBP goes outdated and becomes useless, I'm violently disassembling it with a sledgehammer.

I kept my white 2006 iMac for 5 years strong and only replaced it because it couldn't run After Effects very well.

I tell you, they were built tough back in the day.

I've had my macbook pro for over 5 years now, still running like a champ. Well she's getting a bit slow, but thats expected. Hell I even spilled pepsi all over it and killed it less than a year in and my techy friend cleaned all of the boards and other internals off and it was just fine.

I also have a 15 retina, and had to deal with many issues regarding my screen. My first screen had Image Retention, second screen had a very bad yellow tint, and the third screen had uneven backlight. Apple just decided to replace my MB with a brand new one. Like you, I also expected perfection from a 3000 USD laptop. Try Apple Care, they are very good at handling repairs, and customer service is top notch.

If you don't want to update your hardware every 6 months, spend ~$1500 on a laptop and use it for atleast 5 years, all the while it can kick the crap out of FEA/CFD day-in day-out. That's why I love my ASUS.

I have a 2010 Macbook Pro. I noticed it was getting a bit long in the tooth, so I upgraded the RAM to the maximum amount supported. Really helped with performance (ESPECIALLY with iMovie) and the whole thing feels snappier.

It does use a bit more battery, though. But that could be Yosemite or just diminished battery capacity after 4 years.

If you want to spend less than $1k on a new laptop, get an ASUS. More than that? Business-class Dell or HP.

Lenovo makes some good stuff, but they've kind of ballsed up the Thinkpad line lately with shitty touchpads and keyboard layouts that make 0 sense.

Avoid Acer at all costs. And Toshiba.
