He complains that all Porsche looks similar, since it's based on a 911 look. But I kinda think that Porsche is now based on Cayman Design, not 911.
You see, there's a Cayman. Then Cayman Cabriolet, a Boxster. Then Cayman Sedan, the Panamera. Cayman SUV, Cayenne, and Cayman Crossover, Macan. And at last, Cayman Supercar, the 918. For me all of those car looks a bit more like a Cayman than the 911.

My Friend: "Porsche is so lame. Every 911 just looks like the last one. They make no effort at all, just lazy rehashes.
Me: Or maybe the design works so well for the platform that only incremental changes are necessary to keep it updated.
Friend: See? It's because of apologetic fanatics like you that porsche is able to get away with their lazy rehashes. They make no effort at all, and you shower them with praise for it. Pathetic.
Spoiler alert: Me and this person are no longer friends.

The caymans look was based off the 911 though. So therefore it is all based off the 911 since it came first and the caymans styling was based on it

youre probably focusing on the headlights.
not to say youre wrong. and honestly, i dont think it matters... but...
the 911s are the only models with round/ovoid healights. all of the others have been stretched into some type of smoothed out trapezoid/triangle/something or other.
also... bmw and mercedes have gone back to their one-sausage-different-lengths design strategy. there must be some business rationale supported by, i dont know, maybe some aspect of the human psyche, that says as a sports car manufacturer, we'll sell more suvs if we make them look like our sports cars. or... as a luxury sedan manufacturer we'll sell more compact sedans if we make them look just like our flagship models.

yeah, a bit more like front-three quarters.
I know, maybe it's cheaper to make it that way. Look at Audi.

Your friend has a point, but tell him that while not seen at first, the engines are in different places in those models. I suggest getting the Cayman unless your part of the german Auto Union then you can get a 911.
