Kinja'd!!!

Someone near my Grandmother's traded in an old Jag XJ for a 2010 CRV. He must've gotten sick of riding a breakdown truck to his destination, but still.

Na that's just a random GIS in the same colour. Can't recall what wheels were on his but I assume stock. Just looked like a clean looked after car that hadn't been messed with.

I understand why he'd want more reliable but a CRV?

Kinja'd!!!

We have the neat looking Civic here, even that'd be better.

Judging by the German plate it isn't.

It's not like the HRV has many known qualities.

Anyone else not like the wheels? Or am I opening myself up to Oppo hate?

The CRV has to be one of the dullest, most boring cars ever made. I can't process why somebody would trade anything in for one.

I don't mind them, I don't think they're stock though.

I actually think it's quite noticable due to it's uglyness.

But it's also just Sooooooo boring to look at. The base base model is even worse, Who options bare steel wheels with tiny little centercaps that are the same as the ones used on the 1989 Civic in 2014?

Kinja'd!!!

The first picture is of a 2014 CR-V steel wheel.

Below picture is of a 1989 Civic, WHAT'S THIS? Same Centercap?!?!1 YES, I THINK IT IS.

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

They're using a 26 year old part number on a new car....

Good news for old Civic owners needing new hubcaps at least.

Even cheap hatchbacks dress up steelies a little, impressive Honda gets away with leaving them plain.

When I worked at Carmax, a guy traded in his 2003 mint BMW M5 (w/ 80K) for $12,000 for a new Altima.

I honestly don't know how people do things like this...

The same day a guy traded in a white Corrado for a new Sentra?!?

It makes sense to upgrade to something cheaper to run, but the fact they go for the most appliancey appliance possible confuses me.

I guess that's one upside.

Like Chevrolet gives their plain steel wheels fake alloys at least. Most GM products did that at one point for that matter. But I have no idea if any other car makers are still using the exact same part from 26 years ago on a car. And not like it's a bolt or something.

Only thing I can think of is maybe badges. Or it's possible some cars use the same block as a car from 26 years ago. Think of how long lived some engines have been.

Kinja'd!!! jkm7680 > Twingo Tamer - About to descend into project car hell.

Kinja'd!!!1

Yup, But I'm guessing most badges have been updated or modified a little bit to fit.

I wonder what the longest lived engine is though?

Ehhhh, IMO they just look cheap.

They could at least update them with some HOMIE G fake chrome.

One of my neighbors has an '03 XJ8, and the only times it's in the shop is for oil changes and the occasional tuneup. Ford really turned these around from the dark days of Lucas.

As much as I hate mine, it is practical. My guess is this dude needed to routinely haul big things. We bought our CR-V for grocery runs, and because RWD does not a good snow car make. It also came in handy when my grandfather died and his art collection and other estate stuff had to be schlepped from all over New England to a bunch of storage units in DC. I can't really imagine doing that in a Jaguar, honestly.
