I've been looking for a cheap (under 5 grand) 4x4 truck for the past few months... sold my pathfinder yesterday so that means the search has just intensified. I'm looking at t100s, tundras, sierras and rams but winter in Colorado means slim pickins. Then I saw a 4 door GMC Sonoma- on paper it appears to be the perfect candidate! In person... no so much -
It reminds me of these old Dodge Rams - They are sad/surprised maybe?
Either way I'd have to do something about those...
Also whatever yo do, don't GIS "Sonoma Headlight Conversion" what has been seen cannot be unseen.

Get a Dakota. Perfect Colorado truck and they're a dime a dozen out here.

I was considering a dakota until I drove one, it just seemed super tired, loose and poorly built (remember I drive a Pontiac) I dunno, maybe the one I test drove was ragged. If I can find one with under 100k miles I would be interested.

I love my Sonoma, the Vortec V6 is actually pretty good for the size of the truck. Mine is an extended cab with 4x4 and its quite a bit of weight for that motor though I have lived with it for 7 years! The 4 door might be a bit heavier and push that engine a little further.

Definitely ragged. I mean, interior wise it's obvious Dodge, but the drivetrain is strong and the frame and body are beefy as CHEF BOYARDEE BEEFARONI WITH "MEAT" SAUCE
We've had two - a '95 and a '97 - and have been immensely happy with both! Oddly more happy than we were with the '05 Ram 2500 or the '98 Ram 1500. Also v8 manuel FTW

Good to know! This is the only 4 door I could find private party in Colorado - looks a bit tired. http://cosprings.craigslist.org/cto/4769946269…

I just read that in Mr. Regular's voice haha. I'm gonna try to check out this guy before the holidays - http://denver.craigslist.org/cto/4810213030… Looks clean. The one I test drove was a used car special with 202k on the clock.

I want to own a 4-door someday and V8 swap it... I think they were only available with 4WD though. :(

Did they make a 4 door? Could you imagine swapping an isuzu front clip on to something? THATS CRAZY TALK.

The Hombre is just an S10/Jimmy underneath. So it all SHOULD bolt right up I'd think. Looks like you'd need fenders, headlights, grille and hood. Bumper would probably not need changed.

While I can't unsee the sad eyes, I still think the Sonoma is a good looking truck.

Way too much cash there for something on a rebuilt title. No interior shots either; really worrying me there
Wouldn't particularly trust that one.

The first retro Mustang was a sad dog that had been hit with the paper too many times

I think so too, pretty much every 4 door I have ever seen had the Z71 package which is also 4x4. My extended cab had the small seat in the back but usually its too full of fishing gear, camping stuff, or coolers to seat anyone.

I remember back in my Mini Truckin/Truckin magazine days people were taking the crew cab bodies and putting them on 2WD frames for both the compact and fullsize GM trucks. Made me want one so bad, especially now that I NEED 4 doors.

I used to work for a junkyard that specialized in truck parts. The Hombre/S10/S15 use the same cab, doors, and frame. Mechanically they're identical. Front clip is obviously different, and so is the bed- the Hombre has a little bit of a fender flare on it. I don't think you could use the bumper as the early model S10 of that body style has its turn signals in the bumper and the late model has a little bit of a dip in the top of the front bumper where the grille and lights come down below the cutoff of the fenders.
