The Polo GTI (9n3) was produced between 2006-2009 and boasted a 1.8T with 110 kW (150 hp) and 220Nm of torque which had previously been used in everything from the Mk4 Golf GTI to the Audi A6.
In the model line up this slots in below the bigger Golf and above the smaller Fox (Up!)

A stock Polo GTI will do 0–100 km/h (0-60mph) in 8.2 seconds, but with a tune !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! will make 204 horsepower (152Kw) and 242 ft. lbs (328Nm) of torque, significantly reducing this with !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! members reporting high 6’s to low 7’s.
Supposedly this engine was de-tuned from the factory so as not to compete with the more expensive golf, so with very little modification these figures can be achieved.

It was also featured in ‘Mighty Car Mods’,

Having driven a 1.4 petrol VW Polo for the past 3.5 years, this is a nice change in terms of power. ^above: both base model and GTI variant from 2006.

This particular Polo GTI currently has 168,000 kms on it and had a new clutch fitted at around 140,000kms. The higher kms on the car means the suspension and/or bushings are quite noisy over rough roads and they need some work to get them back up to scratch.

The gearbox intermittently crunches at higher rpm, but I am told that replacing the gearbox oil should solve some of this: !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! and !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

First things first was to clean the car. Inside and Out.

Aside from the usual vacuuming of the interior and wiping down all surfaces (steering wheel, door handles etc.) This involved replacing the cabin air filter. Which as you can see below was long overdue.
a new one is usually white, this one had many years of dirt and grime and definitely need replacing
A quick trip to the local VW dealer and $27 later a new filter was fitted.
They even threw in some brand new number plate covers for free (advertising their dealer of course)

Next up was to repair the broken cup holder which jams shut, a common problem for the 9n model. a tiny spring at the back of the cup holder moves out of line and causes this.
see !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .
In order to do this repair, the radio needs to be removed so you can push the cup holder out from the back . This requires 4 special vw keys that fit into slots in the corners of the radio they are available on ebay for a under 5 dollars a set.
see below

For a bit of fun, here is a size comparison against a monster of an ford F250 I stumbled across the other day. (Reasonably rare in Australia)

Thats all for now

Leave it to the Germans to over complicate cup holders ;)

I had a Lexus that had cup holders that popped out of the center console arm rest. All it took was one of my mom's little dogs to accidently step on it to break.

It's why I'm a fan of stationary, built in cup holders.

Well, in Gran Turismo the previous polo with the Mad Face is really fun, albeit rather slow. Nice car!

How does this one drives? Better or worse?

And oh, how about KM/Ls?
