I'm pretty sure I just saw a Dodge Stealth R/T Twin Turbo die.
I was out for a jog and, out in the distance, I heard the sounds of tires squealing leaving the local high school parking lot. I thought "great, here is some idiot high school kid driving like an ass on public roads". I looked up just in time to see taillights... then headlights... then taillights again, followed shortly by the sickening thud of breaking metal. Once I got there (not rubbernecking, just happened to be going that way), I saw the frame resting squarely on a curb with a huge dent/bend and the rear wheel doing it's best impersonation on the Delorean from back to the future 2.
Yeah, that's not going to buff out.

Yep, pretty sure I was the first one on the scene too. Gave him the requisite "Hey, you ok?" then went along my way. Kid couldn't have been much more than 17 years old.

It was probably just a rebadged non turbo.

Well, I would have stuck around, because witness report of fuckup.
Looks like someone's not getting some car parts for Christmas, let alone a new car hehe!
Poor stealth. :(

Besides, I had to keep the heart rate up!

Never doubt the magical powers of handbrake. That and a "pro" driver.

I pray you are right, but I'm also pretty sure I saw an axle on that severed rear wheel

I really wish parents would drill it into their kids' heads that cars are not toys and that powerful cars will kill you in the blink of an eye if you don't properly respect them.
RIP Stealth R/T TT. :'(

It sucks right? I mean with how rare parts are, every single one is already an insurance write off without even crashing.

Or better yet buy them something with LOW power to start, the Stealth/3000GT was basically a supercar in it's day. Or if they MUST get a sportscar, require them to do car control clinics/autocross.
With how I drove starting out I'd have killed myself with anything over about 150hp (depending on car weight)

Back when I taught high school, I watched a kid come to a closed gate behind the school, and instead of just turning around, he decided to impress his friends by laying rubber in reverse ... And slammed into a light pole 100' behind him. Kid wrecked the shit out of mom's brand new Suburban.

Yeah it wasn't great. Kid cooked it to hard around a long right hander in the ice.

Well, not giving the keys to a high-powered sports car from the start would be obvious, but even then I think there's a dearth of effort given to teach new drivers that cars are weapons that are dangerous to all parties involved.
