A 68 Beetle powered by a 12A, turns over but doesn't run, and is in my price range....if he cut the price in half I would buy it before work tomorrow.

Selling my bug only because I'm becoming a father and need baby furniture! At the moment the car doesn't run but it does turnover. The original owner of the car put a 83' Mazda 12A rotary motor inside and its a blast to drive! Willing to except offers and can deliver within 50 miles of 22304 zip code. I've put over $3,000 into this car and willing to sell for a fraction of what I've spent. MUST PUT A PHONE NUMBER IN YOUR REPLY TO GET A RESPONSE! Give someone a great Christmas gift this year!

How horrific is this thing? Design problems in the engine. Brakes that can disappear at a moment's notice. What has what is presumably a heavier engine done to the dynamics? A transmission not designed to handle more than ... 80BHP? If that. The original engine was air-cooled - someone added a radiator/cooling system? And no heat. And no A/C.

Turns over but doesn't run means it cranks, but won't start. WAWAWAWAWAWA ... nothing.

We get it, you're not a fan, I'm very intrigued by this.. and it's practically in my backyard to boot.

personally, I would love to strip it back down to stock.

"Stock" ... I like that word. And if you have your own garage, maybe a lift, nice tools (or the ability to rent something expensive) then good on 'ya. I just always think of the problems. That's me - risk averse to the core.

The body looks nice, which is about all one can say for it. Of course, there's no photos of the floor pan or heater channels, so who knows what they look like. The interior is a mess and the re-engineering work sounds like kind of a hack job, $1700 is a bit much for a Beetle that is going to need pretty much everything done to it to get right.

"a 12A became the first engine built outside of western Europe or the U.S to finish the 24 hours of Le Mans ."

Wait it's a Rotary, I'm guessing it blew an Apex seal and can't hold enough compression to run.
