Today is my last day of work before vacation. I have off tomorrow through January 5th. Can't wait, but I have a massive Migraine and have for almost three hours now. I just took 600mg of Motrin. Any helpful advice would be appreciated.
Can't go home because I have back-to-back board meetings after work.

Turn of your lights, turn turn your screen brightness, close your door if you have one...
Sometimes the only thing that helps is sleep in a cool, dark, silent room.

Ugh fuck migraines. The only thing I find works is to avoid light as much as possible till it passes which is obviously difficult at work. I assume they wouldn't let you go into a board meeting wearing sunglasses.

I might go find a nice conference room to take over for an hour or two.

Probably not, lol.
I have no history of migraines - what a great day to get one.

I get them very rarely, maybe 2-3 times a year, but they hit hard when I do get them. I'm basically a vegetable until they pass.

Same here. I'm working from home tomorrow but for whatever reason got completely blasted last night and am paying the price now. So hungover, ugh I just want to go curl up at home.

Caffeine can help. I get migraines and usually see spots right before they start. If I can get ibuprofen and caffeine in me soon enough it usually keeps them pretty manageable. As soon as possible I will take 600mg ibuprofen and a can of pop that I drink as fast as I can to maximize the caffeine in my system.

See if you can maybe get a small towel or wash cloth and soak it in cold water to hold on your head. That helps me too and you might be able to get away with it at work.

I definitely saw some spots on my monitor before it hit me really hard. I'll go get a cup of coffee, but the mild nausea isn't helping.

Migraines suck, especially when you can't just lay down in a dark quiet place for a while. Another thing that can help is cooling off.
If you can get on top of them with painkillers and caffeine it is a lot easier but once they get going there isn't much you can do that feels like it helps.

I kno dat feelz bro. Try some Excedrin - it definitely helps me. For more immediate relief, try wrapping a belt around your head (not joking). Should look like this. And, see if you or your significant other can give you a head massage.

I get migraines somewhat frequently at night, depending on what I eat during the day. Peanut butter is almost guaranteed to cause them. When mine are coming on, my neck really starts to kill. At that point I'm taking some aspirin and looking for a bed.

Lol, no worries. First thing I did yesterday wad Google symptoms of stroke versus migraine. Not as helpful as one would think.

That sucks man... peanut butter is awesome. How can modern medicine not know what causes migraines?

Motrin and caffeine helped take the edge off for sure. Followed it up with wine and sleep.
I'll keep the belt idea in the quiver in case if the next one. Thanks man.

Motrin and caffeine seemed to take a kit if the edge off. Props to all who suggested something similar.

Most migraine specific painkillers include caffeine in the drug formulation. The caffeine acts as a vasodilator which helps as migraines involve constriction and possibly spasming of the arteries in your head.
EDIT: Good to hear that helped you out.

Ever had a visual migraine? First time that happened to me, I thought I was going blind...

Motrin and caffeine at work - glass of wine and an early night in once I got home.

The visual part was weird. It was like when you're hungover and can't quite read or when you've had a flashbulb go off in your eyes and the black and white on a screen aren't quite as black and white anymore - more fuzzy. Like you have to try harder to see and understand what you are seeing. (Part of why I started looking at stroke symptoms).

Mine start that way sometimes, but I've had it before where it looks like there's a "tear" in my field of vision and the tear is filled with hundreds of thin lines of bright colors, like some computer glitch. Crazy stuff. Went to the eye doctor and they tell me my eyes are fine, it's all in my brain. Is that supposed to make me feel better?!

Not yet - ha! I've figured out most of my triggers: too much caffeine is one, and just general over-stimulation or too much screen time.
I have a friend who gets them when he has MSG.

I'm really hoping this was just an odd combination of things and won't become a regular occurrence.
Otherwise, I'll be signing up for some Ghost in the Shell type swap.

If it's a first, I'd write down in detail everything you ate, drank and did yesterday that might have brought it on, so the next time, you can look back and see if anything matches up.

If I have a PBJ, it's accompanied by aspirin, just to be sure. Reese's can be rough if I have too many of those. Strangely, peanuts alone don't cause it. I can eat those without one issue. I think some chemical in the PB causes them
