Gf is a big fan of sapphire, but the pieces I find look more fitted for my mom.
Why can't girls enjoy carbon fiber jewelry? After all, diamonds are essentially carbon.

Jewelry shopping is about as much fun as squirting onion juice into your eyes.

True fact, an ex-girlfriend of mine tried to argue with me about the existance of certain gemstones. Then it was casually mentioned that I dont buy lab-created rocks, and well, that was that.
But my other half, we'll just say the rings involved will be some nice CF. I found a good ringmaker that Im happy with, and Im sure it will turn out very well.

I know they don't seem as genuine, but the lab created stuff is a great step forward to closing some of those abusive third-world mines.

Sapphires, emeralds, and rubies are all hella awesome, cooler than diamonds IMO. Not sure why other people don't like them all that much.

I bought the bracelet and earrings pictured. The settings came apart like a Subaru's head gasket.

even though it may not be fun... think of it this way:
if youre going to spend some significant cash on your significant other, wouldn't it be better for her to have it forever? rather than a purse she'll think is out of style in a year, some fancy boots she'll wear into oblivion, or a video game/computer/some bit of tech thatll be obsolete in 2 years?
if youre together forever, the jewelry will likely go to one of your offspring or descendents. if you break up in a bit... and she keeps it... she'll always reminded of you whenever she see's it.
on the other hand, we all know the answer is always...

Canadian diamonds are also getting to be very popular, for the same reason.

Hi, girl who would kill for a carbon fiber ring, checking in. But they don't make awesome rings in those materials for ladies, at least in an engagement style. You can find the plain wedding rings in it now, but it's a new thing.
My "perfect ring" would be carbon fiber with black diamond setting. Just a single stone, doesn't need to be super blingy.

Surprised the DeBeers folks haven't put the kibosh on those, yet...

I'm all in favor of jewelry as a gift, it's just obnoxious to buy. If you're my age everybody in a jewelry store looks at you like they're half a second a way from telling you that the Quiznos is actually across the street, and they practically draw straws to figure which poor sap is going to be helping you today (ask me how I know).
On top of those problems specific to being a young person shopping for jewelry, the markup is so ridiculously high (source: my grandparents owned a jewelry store) that if you don't negotiate with them you might as well open up your wallet and say "Take whatever you want!" So you're forced to pay hundreds of dollars for a low grade product or argue with a 50 year old woman about how much you think a pearl necklace should cost.
At least if you buy a stuffed animal and go on a nice date/trip you don't have haggle with anybody, and the memories can last just as long as a piece of gold.

I fully agree with that, and I don't claim to be better or worse for buying the real thing, but it just means more to me personally.
That said, my other half isn't much for jewelry to begin with, so problem solved?
I just wish custom weaves weren't so ridiculously expensive to pull off.

I'm not looking for an engagement ring, but rather something special, as opposed to the pieces inthe first picture.
But hey, I'll keep your option in mind, just in case... ;)

Because we're in America, bigger/ more expensive is always better, for us.

I'm not a big jewelry person, so pretty much the only stuff I'll ever wear will be an engagement/wedding ring... But first I should work on that boyfriend part. But yeah, I still have ring ideas, since all my friends are getting married/engaged and I've seen their rings.

Meh. I get to use my money on my track car and track days. They have those screaming baby things. I'm good for now.
