I have to wonder if this means we can import some of the bodies of those old American cars they managed to keep running for so long....I'm sure they are Frankensteined to the point of absurdity by this point.

Beyond frankensteined, most of them are running mechanicals that were made available to them...want a 57 Chevy running with a Lada engine?

How about a 57 Chevy whose internals were lost so long ago that putting an LSx in it is no big deal?

No, you definitely can't. There's only a few things that can be modified with an executive order from the President, but to do what you want would require the full embargo to be nullified, and only Congress can do that.

There are a few Lada's I wouldn't mind owning.

Most of their bodies really aren't in that great of shape. Patched together with hand-formed scrap steel and lots of body filler, concealed under carefully applied house paint.

In a way though, one of those in current condition might be the most interesting thing you could see at a car show. Just for how much ingenuity it takes to keep them going without a supply of parts

Oh, absolutely, it would be a definite conversation piece. And it is amazing how good many of them really do look from 5-10 feet away after so many decades of constant use.
