Saw this at Silver Lake dunes in 2013. The things useless. No cage, 2wd, plain ole SBC, little/no vision in any direction. Put a cage on it and put a real motor in it, then we can talk.

A lot of fine buggies are 2wd. The idea is to be light and fast so you don't need 4wd to get out or going.

Really? Didnt know that either....turns out I don't know much about buggies lol
But I would think 4WD or AWD would be required for extreme off-road vehicles - unless you're only using it in non-extreme conditions. I mean, I'd want that I was buying a whole 'nother vehicle...

That's true if you're rock crawling or going on trails. Sand rails/dune buggies need to be light and fast to keep from sinking into sand. You can have AWD or 4WD but it adds weight and complexity, things you don't want when you're out in the desert.

Gotcha, I see your point there...
