So, the Jetta's been getting weird noises around the turbo recently..

From my research, it is a boost leak, confirming my initial observations.

My main issue is finding the damn leak. I'll have to do this in the new year.

I edited the video to remove a lot of filler, so I skipped to important bits. I held it in the ideal RPM of 1500-3000 and first gear for best results, and shifted at a higher RPM than usual as well.

I get both a wooshy noise on a medium-hard acceleration and lifting off only after the turbo has spooled up, and a high pitch whistle intermittently at about 1.5K - 3K RPM, and only stops when I start accelerating again.

You can hear a woosh at about 2:25, and an exaggerated whistle at 3:00, and hearing another little woosh at 3:25 with the whistle again afterwards. I have heard both at once as well.

Doesn't sound like a turbo issue to me, at 2000k rpm that little k03 isn't even making any boost. Do you have a boost gauge? You should. A turbo on it's last legs will sound like a dentist drill and could have some white smoke if it is blown.

How old are your wheel bearings? Do you have any mods?

Doesn't sound turbo to me. Doesn't sound like bypass valve either. You may have something that is just responding to that particular wavelength. Can you reproduce the sound while parked if you hold RPMs in the same general area?

I can't do it parked, it mostly happens in first though. I've been reading that something with the intake is "leaking" air.

Vacuum line or fracture in a pipe, about the only things I could think

I really want to lean toward the bypass valve but it doesn't sound quite right. Still, may want to ensure inlet, vacuum and outlet connections to the valve are free of defect

Is it a diesel? If it is you want to be pretty careful about the turbo because you don't want runaway

running away isn't an issue, not sure how the turbo causes it though.

In a diesel with a turbo, the main seal can fail and dump oil into the intake, then the engine will run on the oil and will increase rpms until it destroys itself even if you turn off the engines fuel
